  • Could use some pointers

This is my first post - ever - about anything. I am kind of private, especially when it comes to my weight loss challenges. These are challenges that I have faced my whole life since I was a kid and was told "You have a pretty face. You would be so beautiful if you lost weight." That one sentence has haunted me my whole life. Anyway, I am ready to share this ride because I think it will be soo much easier if I have support and if I can help to support others.

So I have a few questions...

Has anyone done this as a way to get rid of candida overgrowth and how did that work for you?

I can't stop the sweet craving - probably because of the candida - so I have a coke zero of an atkins bar and that definitely helps. I am only on day 2 and have already lost 3 pounds so I wonder how much damage I am doing with the fake sugar. any thoughts?

I started at 156 and my goal is 120. Has anyone done this and how long did it take? I exercise alot - cardio every day and weights with a personal trainer 2 times per week so I'm hoping that speeds things up.

Any other advice will be greatly appreciated.

    Re: Could use some pointers

    Hi and welcome to ADBB.

There is a a section on Candida Candida (Yeast) - Atkins Diet check it out. As far as how long it will take you to loose your weight, there is no way to tell you - your body and lifestyle isn't the same as anyone else's - as long as you follow the plan the way it's written you'll have success at your rate of weight loss.

Induction is a time to rid yourself of food and drink addictions. Coke zero or any other sodas should be limited or completely done away with. Drinking a minumum of 64 ounces of pure water daily will get your metabolism up, will help flush the nasties and fat out of your system and keep your internal organs working. We are allowed 3 sweetner servings per day (Splenda is what is recommended in the book).

You don't have much to loose so as soon as you get through your 2 week induction it would be wise to move on to OWL Rung 1 and start adding back foods. You'll need the time to figure out which foods you can eat and which foods will be problems for you before you get to maintenance.

We recommend you get a copy of the 2002 Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) the book we use for reference on this site. Until you can get a copy of the book check the stickies (information posts) at the top of the induction page - http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/77558-atkins-diet-induction-faqs.html – it’s a condensed version of everything you’ll need to know. Even through the stickies are a good start they don’t detail the entire program, so that’s why we suggest you have the book to follow.

Post often, ask questions join some of the challenges - the more you use the forum the more you'll get out of it.

    Before you start:
*take your measurements and get on the scale so you have accurate numbers to start with - don't weigh again until the end of your 2 week induction.
*Eat a variety of meats, cheeses and vegetables. Also make sure you get your fats, carbs and protein in daily – www.fitday.com will help you keep track of this.
*Drink 64 ounces of pure water -nothing added daily (Legal water is considered Filtered water, Mineral water, Spring water and Tap water).
*Take your supplements and start an exercise routine today.

The Atkins shakes and bars are not legal on induction – there are non-induction ingredients in them and they are not listed on the acceptable food list. If a food isn’t listed on the acceptable food list it doesn’t belong in your mouth – no exceptions!

The recipe sites are a helpful meal planning tool – just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with.

acudoc, in the big scheme of things you don't have a lot to lose. That plus the candida may mean your weight loss will be fairly slow. Don't get discouraged. It will eventually come off.

It is kind of nice to be able to get the support you need when you are a private person without actually having to see someone face to face..

          Re: Could use some pointers

Welcome! I've been heavy (with a pretty face) my whole life too. I've (finally) decided to do something about it - and keep it off this time. I plan to be on Atkins for the rest of my life. Make sure that you climb the carb ladder - you need to find out how many carbs you can tolerate and what your problem foods are.

You'll have no way of knowing how fast you could lose without the Atkins bars & Coke Zero unless you cut them out. If you can stay away from all sweets (even artificial) for a couple weeks, other foods (like red peppers) will start to taste sweet to you. Also, Atkins bars have ingredients in them that aren't legal until Rung 9 (no matter what the package says). They are also known to stall weight loss in some people.

I'm glad that you posted - and hope you will continue to do so - this journey is easier with help and support along the way. Best wishes,

            Re: Could use some pointers

Thanks for the support. I decided to put the atkins and the diet sodas down. I am doing well but still have the cravings. I did another spit test and after only 4 days of the candida/atkins WOE there is already a remarkable change. I am also taking antifungals and heavy probiotics.

I must admit that the combo of the candida/atkins is REALLY strict. I never realized how hard it is to not eat cheese!
