Hello, everyone. I am Kat, and I am so pleased to have become a part of ADBB!

I do have one quick question: when do you start phasing in whole grains, and how much of them can/should you eat?

Hi and welcome -- in answer to your question whole grains are the 9th rung of the carb ladder on Atkins -- you are on rung 1 from your signature so it will be awhile. If you don't have the 2002 DANDR (Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution) book, which is the edition we follow on this site you can find the rungs here. http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...te-ladder.html

Each rung you add back the type of food on that rung in 5 net carb increments -- the first week trying a new food 3 times during the week so you know if you have a problem with it (by gaining) or not. If you don't have a problem that food it can be eaten whenever you like the next week and you can either stay on that rung, trying out different foods from that group until you are ready to move on. It's not recommended to go from induction to Rung 7 or 8 -- your body needs time to get use to the new foods and the rungs were set up in order for that reason.

    Good luck to you.

Kat you should be moving up the rungs now. You are very close to goal and should start adding dairy, then nuts, then berries, etc. til you get to the grain rung (which is near the end). Go to the Ongoing Weight Loss threads and the OWL rungs are listed there. It is in your best interest to start up now and learn what triggers your cravings and stops your losses so you can build a maintenance food plan into your life.

It's not about the results. Its about the process.

Thanks so much for the information! I haven't really followed Atkins to the letter, but since the weight has been coming off, I'm not fussed about it. I know I've definitely skipped some of these rungs and been very naughty!

I read on another thread where you are allowing yourself alcohol along the way. I do hope you will realize if and when your weight loss stops why it's happening and not think it's because the plan doesn't work -- you are young and lucky to be able to loose while not following the plan - good luck to you.

Oh, I would never blame the plan because I fudged all the details! I love the fact that Atkins makes me feel fit and full--not stuffed and still craving carbs.

I just know myself very well--sweets aren't really a pitfall, but baguettes and pastas, aye, aye, aye!

If I let myself have a couple of alcohol drinks every now and then, I don't feel too deprived, and I enjoy life more. You're right, though; this probably works for me because I'm still young. Since I don't plan to lose weight and quit the Atkins, though, I'm hoping that the good habits will stick with me and I'll learn the golden rule of moderation!

All of the people I've seen on here are awe-inspiring! It really amazes me how closely you follow Atkins and how true you are to the diet (and yourselves).
