  • Another Newbie of sorts from Aus.

    Hi all
I hate the intro bit too... but here goes. I attempted Atkins earlier this year and did really well. The cravings for sweets just left me - no more over eating, evening binges etc. I mainly wanted to get my waist down to the healthy under 80cm mark. I went off track in May and have not resumed the eating style enough to continue to lose cms. So I am back on the plan and want to lose another 10-13lbs and 4cm from my waist and KEEP it like that.

    See you in the forums

    Welcome to the ADBB, masomaso!

I'm glad you decided to return to Atkins because it's the only diet that really works for the long haul. The rest are just short term fixes that don't last. Good luck to you!

Welcome to ADBB!!! And good for you for making your way back to Atkins!!! At least you are still only 10-13 pounds, you'll be there in no time

Be sure to read Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution, drink at least 64 oz of water a day, do some sort of exercise that you enjoy, and get a good multivitamin. Also I would recommend getting a fit day. It's been a life saver for me! LOL

I would suggest doing Induction and go to OWL right away, since you have such little weight to lose. That way you can keep it off

If you need anything, you let us know. We're here for you!

Re: Another Newbie of sorts from Aus.

Hi and welcome back -- Here is a little information I hope will refresh your memory and help get you going again. To loose and keep the weight off follow the plan the way Dr. Atkins wrote it. The plan works if you follow it the way it is written and don’t try to do it “your way”. Hopefully you’ll think of Atkins as a way of living for a lifetime, not a quick way to shed some weight and quit again.

Check the STAC Second Time Around Club - Atkins Diet for additional support. We also have challenges for members to join, some are exercise related and some aren’t. Also start a journal and post your thoughts along the way.

Check the recipe sites also - they are very helpful and will help make your meals so much more enjoyable. Make sure you are using induction recipes until you move on to OWL (ongoing weight loss)

Re: Another Newbie of sorts from Aus.

Hi all and thanks for the welcome back!

I have not been in the Atkins forums b4 so it was a nice surprise. As you read I only have a bit to lose and not too many cm to lose either. As I am in Aus. I tend to use cm and kg but I realised that I used lbs and cm - confusing? I had to use an online converter to get the lbs right.

As for the 64oz of water - that is 1.8L and I just never get that much in - even in summer (it is currently winter though not really cold here in Brisbane). I can drink green tea x 4 during my working day and a peppermint tea in the evening, regular black tea x 2 at breakfast and also at afternoon tea time and some water but it is not nearly 1.8L of water. Does it have to be straight water or can my teas add up too?

I was thinking of not doing a strict induction but starting with OWL. The Atkins website says you can if you don't have much to lose - what is the general concensus? I know that it may be harder to rid myself of any cravings but....

                Thanks in advance

The only thing that counts toward your 64 ounce water intake daily is pure water -- nothing added.

In the DANDR book page 230 it says:

                  9. You must drink at least eight 8-ounce glasses of pure water daily. This can be filtered, mineral or spring water (not seltzer). You may also have unlimited amounts of herbal tea (without sugar), but these do not count toward your total of eight glasses.
