  • hello,newbie here

    hi,
my name is jane and i have been browsing the forum on and off for a few days now, thought it was about time i said hello!
I don`t get much time to be online, i`m a foster carer and single mum so my hands are usually quite full but i will be online as and when i can.

i started the AD on sunday, i`ve tried just about every diet going and am in the mindset that i must be at the age when my body just wants to put weight on and not lose it anymore, which is really upsetting as i am going to florida in 4 1/2 weeks time

i`ve previously been as heavy as 15 1/2 stone and managed to get down to 10 stone just by cutting out junk food, that was a few years ago now, but over the last year its crept back up and i`m now back at 12 stone and for a 5ft 1in frame thats not good.

i`ve tried to do the diet properly, i think i am but i need to know if by saying that we can eat fish and meat as much as we want, does that mean at any time through the day or just at set meal times?
can we use meat or tuna and mayo solely as a meal/snack?

I have intolerances to certain foods but luckily on AD the only ones affected are peppers and i can only have tomatoes in moderation

cups - what is a measure by cup? is it a tea cup like you get with a cup and saucer or is it a large mug size cup and do we measure each salad item each or altogether in the one cup?

I only drink water so thats not a problem
how much butter can i use through the day as i dont use gravy, i make a little juice on the meat by rubbing a bit of butter into it while its cooking then put a little of it over my veg, is this ok to do?

i have an intolerance to wheat and most fruit so i wont be missing those

I think i made a boo boo and had carrots, they arent allowed on induction are they?
basically i eat, sprouts, green beans/runnerbeans, broccli, cauli, swede, turnip. pork, beef, lamb, chicken, egg, bought a pot of spooning cream as milk is not allowed, cheese, tuna, mayo, onion, cabbage, toms in moderation, lettuce
is it ok to have chicken with coatings on them? eg, bbq chicken, tikka chicken, the sort you get pre packed or pre roasted?

ok i best leave it at that and come back later, baby has just woken up

    thanks for listening!

Hi Jane, if you can find the book (2002 version) and read it you will avoid many mistakes and it will clarify a lot for you. This is more a high fat diet than a high protein diet.

BBQ chicken usually has sweet sauces and marinades that make them a no--better to do it yourself and know what you are getting. Tikka chicken is fine after the Dairy rung but not on Induction. Carrots are high in sugar--they are not allowed for quite awhile. Tomatoes and onions are higher than other induction veggies so watch your quantities and use fitday.com to plug in your foods so you can start to learn the counts for yourself.
Butter and mayo and oil are fine in reasonable quantotoes. What's reasonable? Well your fat percentage of calories should be at 65%, protein 30% and carbs 5% during induction--another reason that fitday helps you along since it keeps track of this.

A "cup" is roughly a teacup (not a large mug) or the equivalent of a 250 ml liquid measure. (correct me if I am wrong UK residents).

Measure your veggies together or separately but the total can still be 2 cups for all of it combined.

It's not about the results. Its about the process.

Hi and welcome -- it sounds like you really need a copy of the book Jill talked about above -- check at the top of the page under "classifieds" someone has a book in the UK they will send for the price of postage.

The stickies at the top of the Induction area are a good start they don’t detail the entire program http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/77558-atkins-diet-induction-faqs.html.

The recipe sites are a helpful meal planning tool – just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with.
      Recipe Sites
      http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/menus.html (Linda’s)
      http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/58513-never-ending-induction-recipes.html (Induction recipes)
      http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/6807-induction-recipe-basics-more-recipes-added.html (Induction Recipe Basics)

*take your measurements and get on the scale so you have accurate numbers to start with - don't weigh again until the end of your 2 week induction.
*Eat a variety of meats, cheeses and vegetables. Also make sure you get your fats, carbs and protein in daily – www.fitday.com will help you keep track of this.
*Drink 64 ounces of pure water -nothing added daily (Legal water is considered Filtered water, Mineral water, Spring water and Tap water).
      *Take your supplements and
*do some form of exercise daily -- walking, etc..

If a food isn’t listed on the acceptable food list it doesn’t belong in your mouth – no exceptions! Look at the ingredients list and check it against the acceptable food list -- just because it says "low carb" doesn't mean you can eat it. The Atkins shakes and bars (as well as other brand names of these products) are not legal on induction – there are non-induction ingredients in them and they are not listed on the acceptable food list.

If you need anything we’re here to help you!! Good luck.
      Carole

I am not sure about the tea cup bit but 250ml measure is correct. I went to the supermarket and got a set of measuring cups dead cheap and used them.

          Hi and Welcome janem!
