Hi there! I am 32, have 3 kiddos and weigh in at 210. I have been on induction 4 days now and I have been starving eating everything legal I can get my hands on. I am not sure how I will do because of my thyroid condition. I have 80 lbs to lose. My goal is 130, which according to Fitday is barely within healthy weight range for my height (5'2). I am a carbo addict so the first 2 days were **** and I am still feeling really tired. But I am always tired because of my hypo. I am also on cortisol replacement therapy for adrenal fatigue and it has caused me to gain 15 pounds in the last month. I effects sugars pretty bad so I am hoping low carb will help that. I don't expect to lose like other people because of my issues but I hope to find friends and supporters here. My hubby is not a supporter. In the last 3 days he has brought to the house, nutty ice cream cones, syrup flavored toaster waffles, a whole cherry pie, snickers candies-bite size, and more bannanas, pears, plumbs, and grapes than I have ever seen before. Yet, he FORGOT to get me a dozen eggs. I think I will be doing my own personal shopping from now own! Anyways, I hope to meet some fellow induction starters here!

Re: New here with hypothyroidism
Hi pincushion, I would bet that in the next couple of days you will be feeling better than you have in a long time.
Good that you are taking into account your meds and health issues. My loss is extremely slow but I feel so much better on this WOE that alone is reason enough to stay. (When I stray I feel the difference immediately)
Sorry your DH isn't supportive. That's really crummy when they bring in all their junk in front of your nose.
I know that right now you are REALLY HUNGRY, so eat if you need to do so. Having said that, one of my flaws is that I don't always really think about whether or not I am hungry, I just put the food on my plate on "auto-pilot". training myself to only eat until I am not hungry is an ongoing battle. Just keep that in mind as you progress. Most folks find their appetite drops off, but not everyone's does so.
Glad you found us and wishing you a successful journey.

Re: New here with hypothyroidism
Welcome. You have found a good place. Stick to the plan and avoid the sweets (we call 'em goodies but they are really baddies). Give yourself two weeks, avoid the scale and TAKE MEASUREMENTS! You will not believe the changes in energy. I really hope that this works for you!
PS: I love cherry pie. I love my new outlook on life better.Mick

Re: New here with hypothyroidism
Hi pincushion -- when you are hungry make sure you eat something with fat -- the fat will help keep you feeling full longer than without it. Eat some chicken, steak, hamburger, fish -- whatever you want but dip it in mayonaise, spread some cream cheese on top, fry whatever you are eating in butter....however you want to do it -- get some fat in!
As far as your husband bringing in everything you shouldn't be eating - let him. You can prove to yourself you don't need these things anymore -- it's hard for people we live with that don't follow the plan (I have my husband and mother here that don't) so you'll have to live with a little doubt for awhile and probably some verbal insults about the way you are eating....as long as you are following the plan the way it's written you will succeed. I understand about the meds you are on -- I am on a few things that make my weight loss very slow - don't give up (I know it's hard to do) but with patience you will win this battle!!
We follow the 2002 Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR). At the top of the induction page you’ll find a condenced version of the book - http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/5781-before-you-begin-atkins-nutritional-approach.html.
Just remember, if a food isn’t listed on the acceptable food don’t eat it. Look at the ingredients list of everything at the grocery store and check the ingredients against the acceptable food list -- just because it says "low carb" doesn't mean you can eat it. We count "net carbs" not whole carbs (carb minus fiber = net carbs).
The recipe sites are a helpful meal planning tool – just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with.

Re: New here with hypothyroidism
Hi Pincushion - interesting name
I suffer from hypothyroidism, a pretty bad case of it actually. I am on a high dose of thyroid meds and I fight tooth and nail to lose a single pound, but regardless, I am determined to do this. I just started Atkins on Wed so I'm only 6 days in but I'm excited about it. I was hoping to meet others who share in this illness and it's nice to see I'm not alone. I have also done a ton of research and found out that Atkins is a pretty good diet plan for anyone with thyroid issue - it gives us the best chance of weight loss.
If you ever need encouragement, drop me a note
Best of luck and God bless.

Re: New here with hypothyroidism
I didn't see this topic until now and it looks like Pincushion didn't come back. I'm sorry to see that as I am concerned about her.
When I was first diagnosed hypoT, I read everything I could find. One thing I kept hearing about was this "adrenal fatigue." When first diagnosed and going through the titration process it is not uncommon to feel rather miserable between dose increases. For me, it was dose increase, shortly feeling achey, fatigued, brain fogged, etc. and then gradually beginning to feel slightly better just before time for a dose increase and then the process would start over.
I'm a fairly patient person, so I just put up with this over the year plus it took to get my levels correct. When I heard people talking about adrenal fatigue, I naturally wondered if this was my problem. Many people were saying, if you have this adrenal fatigue, you really can't feel better on thyroid meds until you deal with the adrenal fatigue. Hmmmmm ....
So I did some research. I found plenty about it on the websites I have come to view as questionable and not a place to look for medical advice. I could find no support that there even is such a recognized medical condition as adrenal fatigue on the few sites I see as having solid medical information. I then talked to several trusted doctors. They all told me there is no such recognized medical condition. Well, they were much more explicit than that, but I'll spare you all everything I actually heard from them. The bottom line is that none of them confirmed there is any such condition, that some treatments being used on people supposedly diagnosed with this "condition" are endangering them rather than helping them.
FWIW to anyone interested ...
Here is some good info on "adrenal fatigue" from Mayo Clinic: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/adrenal-fatigue/AN01583
Here is a question about "adrenal fatigue" and a response on the WebMD board: http://boards.webmd.com/webx?THDX@@.896b4f81.89ad8ab8!thdchild=.896b4f81.8 9ad8ab8
