  • Hi just an introduction

Hi guys I'm new to Atkins my wife just introduced me to the diet 14 days ago, my name is Jeremy I'm a Memphis Tenn firefighter that has gained way too much weight, it's easy to do on my job but I'm not making excuses I'm finally doing something about it, I also got diganosed with hypothroidism the same day I started atkins. I'm really positive so far I've lost some pounds in the first 14 days and this has been pretty easy. Anyways just checking in and look forward to any advice, tips , etc. Thanks Jeremy

    Re: Hi just an introduction

Hi and welcome to ADBB Jeremy.

Congratulations on getting started already and loosing some of the weight! Also cudos to your wife for getting you on the Atkins plan! We follow the 2002 Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR). At the top of the induction page you’ll find a condenced version of the book - http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/5781-before-you-begin-atkins-nutritional-approach.html. Follow the plan the way it's written and you'll be very successful!

The foods we eat are easy to find in the grocery store but if a food isn’t listed on the acceptable food don’t eat it. Look at the ingredients list of everything at the grocery store and check the ingredients against the acceptable food list -- just because it says "low carb" doesn't mean you can eat it. We count "net carbs" not whole carbs (carb minus fiber = net carbs).

The recipe sites are a helpful meal planning tool – just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with.

      Re: Hi just an introduction

Hi Jeremy, best advice is to READ THE ENTIRE BOOK. So many times we answer questions that are in the book. Unfortunately answering one question does not put the information into context so people don't always follow the advice. Reading the 2002 DANDR gives you the big picture so it all fits together.

Other than that, my best advice is quick:
      1) stay on the board to keep yourself accountable
      2) use Fitday.com or Sparkpeople.com or one of the other great free sites to log your eating and exercise. they are full of information for you
      3) eat your veggies
      4) drink your water--at least 100 ounces a day
      5) Exercise 4-5 times a week. Start reasonably and work up. Choose something you know you will like well enough to continue over time.

Best wishes for a successful Induction and welcome to ADBB

It's not about the results. Its about the process.
