  • I'm back...!!

    Hi all,

    I don't expect anyone to remember me, as I wasn't really active back in the day - but I found it interesting that my join date was Sept '04! I dabbled with Atkins in the past, and now I am here to get serious.

    I am a mom of a toddler boy (hence the Lightning McQueen avatar!) and I have a husband who is also doing Atkins. I read the first half of DANDR yesterday, and tomorrow I am embarking full-on Induction. I have been doing low-carb since July 4 (Protien Power style-ish), and I've lost 12 pounds.

    I look forward to getting to know you all.

    We follow the 2002 Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) - I hope that's the book you have. At the top of the induction page you’ll find a condensed version of the book -

    Make a copy of this list: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html and take it with you when you go to the store

    If a food isn’t listed on the acceptable food list don’t eat it. Shakes and bars aren't induction friendly. Make sure you don’t just look at the “carb” number look at the ingredients list of everything and check the ingredients against your list. Just because it says "low carb" doesn't mean you can eat it. Also check for hidden sugars (learn the names used in place of the word “sugar”). We count "net carbs" (carb minus fiber = net carbs) – you can keep track of your daily food on FitDay or another program.


    The recipe sites are helpful for meal planning – just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with.

        Thanks for the warm welcome back! Does this entire website follow '02 DANDR? I know the '72 version is more hardcore. I do have the book, and I read the first half this past week. I'm going to do a 3 day meat and eggs only diet starting today - so that I can get myself into ketosis quickly. Then I'm going to ease back out to <20 carbs a day, as per Induction rules.

          Yes, we only follow the 2002 edition so we're very pro-veggie. They provide fiber and vital nutrients. It sounds like you did well losing 12 lbs., are you sure you want to go meat and eggs only?

            Thanks! Yes, I am proud of the 12 pounds for sure, but I was creeping carbs back in and I know I am no longer in ketosis. I think by saying meat and eggs only, I am actually going to achieve Induction per the rules. Like, for example, I just ate leftover steak and heated up some brocolli, too, because, well, it was there. Haha. I also added a bit of ranch for dipping. You can see how well I follow rules.

              It's good that you are getting some veggies in at the start because otherwise you risk getting constipated and that's no fun. It's better to follow the rules as Dr. A advised. Don't be so impatient, it will work if you do it right.
