  • Looking forward...

    Hello everyone,

I am a 35 year old mother of a 5 year old and a 7 month old. I have been struggling with my weight most of my life but have been really overweight (don't like the word obese) since I had my first child. I have tried similar low-carb diets and had some success - but I am the one who never finishes what I start! This time, I am looking forward to the rest of my life and will take it one day at a time.

I have been roaming the boards a little for the last few nights and am so happy to have such an inspirational place to come to for support. I am so very afraid that I won't be able to stick with it. But as I say, I will look only to making it through each day and looking forward to seeing the losses each week - hopefully this will help me from becoming overwhelmed with the amount I want to lose. I have 160 pounds to lose to get to my ideal. I don't remember the last time I was at my ideal weight!

Thank you to all who post in these forums, it is such a motivator!

I look forward to being here for a long time and getting to my goal for the first time in my life!

    Cheers,
    Andie

Hi Andie from Canada. That is where I am too. In Saskatchewan.
Yes you can do it. One key will be to follow the rules of induction to a T. It acually help you stick to it for the long run. Have you purchased Atkins New Diet Revolution yet? It is a good source.

      Welcome to the board, Andie!

I know the task of losing a lot of weight seems daunting at first but try to remember that it is necessary if you want to be here for your youngesters! You will have a happier life, be able to play with them and most importantly, you will be teaching them how to eat right so they won't have to go through what you are now.

I know you can do it and we are here to help! Post often, make us a part of your life and you will do fine.

Hi and welcome to ADBB Andie.

Like anything else in life you have to start, you have to believe in yourself and make the changes you want to make. We understand how you feel because we've been in your shoes, hopefull that we can do this...and with some persistence we've done it .... and so can you!!!

We follow the 2002 Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) it would be a helpful for you to have a copy of the book to refer to. At the top of the induction page you’ll find a condensed version of the book - http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/spotlight-introduce-yourself/60133-if-you-new-read.html

Make a copy of this list: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html and take it with you when you go to the store. If a food isn’t listed on the acceptable food list don’t eat it. Make sure you don’t just look at the “carb” number look at the ingredients list of everything and check the ingredients against your list. Just because it says "low carb" doesn't mean you can eat it. Also check for hidden sugars (learn the names used in place of the word “sugar”). We count "net carbs" (carb minus fiber = net carbs) – you can keep track of your daily food on FitDay or another program.

The recipe sites are helpful for meal planning – just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with. There is a way to have just about everything and anything you could possibly want to eat and you'll find it on one of these links.

            Hello

I think thats a good plan to take it one day at a time, especially if you see it as such a huge challenge in the begining. Keep checking out the before and after thread, that will inspire you as there are tons of success stories there.

Good Luck! you can do it

              Re: Looking forward...

Well, here I am more than a month after I posted my introduction to the Boards and I can't believe I am having to admit that I didn't even make it through induction! I did really well for the first 10 days and then we went on vacation. I was determined to stick with this WOE and did really well for a day and a half. We were at an amusement park and my own will power and resolve just didn't last. I fell off the wagon and have been struggling to get back on ever since.

Each night I tell myself I will start the next day, and then before I know it another week has gone by. I have started out very well quite a few days and then by the evening, I end up having dinner with my son and eating carbs.

I realized very quickly that I am not someone who can ever cheat on this diet even a little bit - I am certainly addicted to sugar and salty carbohydrates.

I think the biggest mistake I have made over the past few weeks in trying to get back on this WOE is not visiting these message boards. I found myself "too busy" to get back here and it has made a huge difference in my motivation level .

So I am back and I will check in here every day for inspiration, I am really looking forward to getting back on track and getting that great energy back that I feel when I am following atkins.

Thanks everyone for all the inspiration you provide here daily and if you have any words of encouragement for me, please pass it along!

                Re: Looking forward...

Thanks for the update. And good job coming here and doing that. It helps.
Maybe keeping a journal in the journal section would help you too?
There is also a forum here of second timers and a forum for those with a 100 lbs or more to lose. Those may be good places to visit to get inspiration.
You did for 10 days so you know you can do it again. Shake up some all habits. Sometimes our old ways included eating and if we do things differently it may be easier to get into a new rhythm. I will be looking for your next post.
