  • Back again...this time it's for GOOD!!!

I'm a former lifetime WW member who is sick and tired of being hungry all the time and the constant struggle to stay at goal. I have been on every diet known to mankind (not kidding!) and have finally settled in my mind that low carb is the ONLY one that I truy feel satisfied with. However, I know that if I am going to do this right, I need to make a permanent lifestyle change, not be trapped in this 'temporary diet fix' mentality.

So I am here to ask for tips from others who have done so....and also to ask for help and tips (links, threads, etc) to support my very busy lifestyle. I'm a working mom of 2 little ones and one of my little ones has chronic health conditions, so stress is kinda my middle name! In the past, I've used this as an excuse NOT to take care of me, but I know also that in order to best take care of my kiddos, I need to have a lot of energy and be in the best health possible. Losing weight is one step.....there's a lot more I need to do to help get me there, though!

Quick, easy recipes, snacks, tips and tricks, secrets to success, any other advice is welcome...I'm not looking for a quick fix....I'm old enough to know that this is going to take a lot of work and sacrifice. If there were a quick easy fix...we'd all be skinny, wouldn't we? I would love to learn from those who have 'gotten it right', though!

I'm on day 2 of induction, and things are going well so far (well...the cravings can be INTENSE at times...but from past experience, I know they will soon be a distant memory, so I am trying to hang tough!)

Thanks and glad to be back.....for good this time!

    Hi and welcome to ADBB.

We follow the 2002 Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) it would be a helpful for you to have a copy of the book to refer to. At the top of the induction page you’ll find a condensed version of the book - http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/spotlight-introduce-yourself/60133-if-you-new-read.html

Unlike WW you can eat until you are full on Atkins....make sure you keep your fat up which will help keep you feeling full inbetween meals. Drink plenty of pure water daily (64oz minimum), exercise starting today and take a good multivitamin.

Make a copy of this list: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html and take it with you when you go to the store. If a food isn’t listed on the acceptable food list don’t eat it. Make sure you don’t just look at the “carb” number look at the ingredients list of everything and check the ingredients against your list. Just because it says "low carb" doesn't mean you can eat it. Also check for hidden sugars (learn the names used in place of the word “sugar”). We count "net carbs" (carb minus fiber = net carbs) – you can keep track of your daily food on FitDay or another program.

The recipe sites are helpful for meal planning – just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with.

Re: Back again...this time it's for GOOD!!!

Thanks for the welcome and tips!

I have read the 2002 book and have a copy close at hand! The links are awesome, though because I am ALWAYS online and use the laptop for everything..meal planning, grocery list, menus, recipes, etc.

I am a runner, so I am going to keep running (not fast by any means, more of a jogger really), and I'd like to add some resistance and stretching, and probably some other cardio work to mix things up a bit. As you know, the running community as a whole is not very welcoming to anything low carb, but I'm sure there are other runners here who haver adopted the Atkins lifestyle and done fine with it....I am going to be looking for them, especially as the winter months approach and I want to increase my mileage significantly.

I am off to check out those links and get a grocery list together....food shopping day is tomorrow and I want to make sure I'm well stocked for next week.

Re: Back again...this time it's for GOOD!!!

        Welcome back.
I run too. But not fast.
We have a bit of a running thread in the exercise forum. If you would like to join us. Betty is the master runner around here. Big on marathons and she has been low carbing for 7 years.
Check the recipe forums and the recipe threads Carole listed. There are so many cool things to do.

Re: Back again...this time it's for GOOD!!!

Cool...I will check out that thread!

I ran my 1st 1/2 marathon in Miami this year....slow (2.47) but I finished! Never would have thought in a million years I would be able to say that!

I can't wait 'til the weather cools down a bit...the most I can make it now is about 3 miles and I want to die...I'm drenched. I'm in S Florida and it's still 95+ degrees when I run after work in the evening. I really need to move up north! lol!
