  • Need some inspiration

It's the beginning of my 4th week in. Weighed myself on Saturday and was down another two pounds since I ended induction. I weighed myself today for fun because my boss asked me if I lost weight and I was 2 lbs. up... I know weight fluctuates and yada yada, but I just need some motivational words of wisdom from anyone right now to keep me on track!!! Maybe a nice little success story of how this happened to you, but you stuck with it!

    Thanks!

I've always looked at it this way ... if you follow the plan the way it is written by Dr. Atkins in DANDR 2002, drink your water and exercise you should lose weight. People here on ADBB get dazzled by the numbers, but everyone had a different starting point so while one person may lose 5 pounds, another loses 2 or 3 pounds. One of the former moderators posted this stickie.

    http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-extended-induction/5090-weight-loss-not-linear.html

My advice is to give yourself a little more time. Drink a lot of water. Be honest with yourself about your exercise and food intake. Post your menus with the amounts your have eaten for others to troubleshoot. Keep in mind that if you are in the TOM years, that can also slow you down for a few days.

Just ride out a few more days with determination and doing what you are supposed to be doing. Don't get discouraged by that. We have all been there ... trust me on that one!!!

    Best wishes!

When you are alone in your head, you are in a bad neighborhood.

I know from past experience that my weight fluctuates a lot with my girl "cycle." Maybe that could have had an impact. You could by some ketostix to measure whether or not you are still in ketosis...that might help you keep motivated even if the scale is fluctuating!

I think this post really brings home the reality of the fact weight loss is not linear.

I've just gone about 6 weeks with no weight loss -- inches lost yes...but no pounds down on the scale. Because the food is so good and tastes like you aren't "dieting" it was easy to stay with this WOE. This isn't a quick fix, loose a few pounds and go back to the old way...it's a commitment.

Hopefully you will find your commitment and stick with it even in the "yadda yadda" times...lol

Well if you do a best fit line...it is linear (linear regression), with a negative slope...the slope is proportional to an individual's metabolism?...

It happens to all of us. With a woman's metabolism, it is usually do to hormonal fluctuations and water weight gain. It is difficult to lose a pound of fat, and believe me, it is also difficult to gain a pound of pure fat because of the caloric content.

I'm very heavy into lifting weights and I purposely fluctuate my weight during the weekends. This weekend I went up 7 lb but I'm sure that by Thursday I'll be back to my original weight and by Saturday I should be weighing a bit less. Sunday morning I weighed 204 lb and this morning my weight was 211 lb. (I'm 71 inches tall.)

Weight also fluctuates because of sodium intake. If I need to lose a few pounds for an event, I usually cut out sodium two days prior.

Weight loss is a life long commitment. To be successful, understand that it is a life style change. It is something you will be working at for the rest of your life. You'll get better and better at your physique transformation as the weight comes off. Eventually, those stubborn pockets of fat will minimize.

A big problem we all face is the media with all those nutty adds that you can lose 40 lb in a month, etc. It can be done by some form of starvation diet or fasting but the fat loss to muscle mass loss will be severe.

You will lose weight, it's a biological inevitability, if you exercise and especially if you eat right for your metabolism. It also takes a caloric deficit.

So, if your weight fluctuates by 2 - 4 lb rest assure it is normal. My weight has fluctuated as much as 11 lb in two days. I laugh it off because I know I'm in control of it. You will eventually learn how to read your body and will be able to change its appearance on a daily basis. It takes experience and constant monitoring. If you want to know the truth, I weigh myself many times a day just for fun. I don't pay serious attention to what the scale reads, but what I really monitor weekly is my skin fold thickness using calipers.

You'll be fine and remember it took a long time to put the weight on and it will take time to take it of.

Did you weigh on the same scale as usual, at the same time of day? My weight fluctuates 4-5lbs DAILY. (I weigh the least first ting in the morning, so that is when I weigh ) Scales fluctuate wildly - always use the same scale!

                    Re: Need some inspiration

I realized today while I was cleaning my mess of a kitchen that (duh) I'm not going to drop all the weight I want in 3 weeks so why am I complaining...? I'm down 15 lbs already that's something to celebrate right? I am not looking at the darn scale until next weigh in. More importantly this new way of eating has made me feel better about myself... More importantly I can actually feel my body decreasing mass. I wake up and my muscles feel like they have been working hard all night long... The best feeling I have felt in awhile I think!!

haha EVEN Better news though... I made an amazing casserole tonight from one of the recipes on this forum... beef, broccoli, cream cheese, parmesan and heavy cream - I literally sang to myself in the kitchen as I ate it (my roomates got a kick out of that) !!! Thanks for the kind words everybody!
