  • Hi New Atkins Follower

    Hi Everyone,
Today is day one, it is almost over, and I feel good about my day. I am very hopeful and excited to see this all the way through. I wish there was a "hotline" to call and ask questions though. With all the reading I have done, I still am seeking answers that are more specific than the program explains. Well I hope to make a lot of new friends here and hope we can all support each other in our journey. I have seen so many great success stories here, I am very motivated.
    Well nice to meet you!
    ~Mary

Hi and welcome to ADBB Mary.

Any specific questions you have - post them and ask away -- there are several people here who are wonderful at answering questions. Join some of the challenges, start a journal, get involved -- the more you use the site the easier the plan becomes!

We follow the 2002 Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) it would be a helpful for you to have a copy of the book to refer to. At the top of the induction page you’ll find a condensed version of the book - http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/spotlight-introduce-yourself/60133-if-you-new-read.html

Make a copy of this list: (What foods can be eaten on Induction?)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html and take it with you when you go to the store. If a food isn’t listed on the acceptable food list don’t eat it. Learn to read the label on all foods you buy - don’t just look at the “carb” number look at the ingredients list of everything and check the ingredients against your list. Just because it says "low carb" doesn't mean you can eat it. Also check for hidden sugars (learn the names used in place of the word “sugar”). We count "net carbs" (carb minus fiber = net carbs) – you can keep track of your daily food on a free program at www.FitDay.com or another tracking program.

The recipe sites are helpful for meal planning – just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with.

        Re: Hi New Atkins Follower

Ok, I was directed to links above and they refer to the Atkins website, yet the post said not to use the Atkins website, bit to follow the changed program as in the Diet Revolution, so now I am a little confused. Also, I had the book, but I think one of my sons borrowed it, so I was going to buy another copy tomorrow.
The book store website shows 2 books:

Dr. Atkins’ New Diet Revolution 2002

Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution: Revised and Improved 2001

This is also confusing, the revised and improved New Diet Revolution came out before the New Diet Revolution? Which am I to purchase?

And the more I am reading today on the websites and forums, the more I am confused, my head is spinning. Am I to stay under 20 g of carbs, with 1/2 being from the 2 veggie lists? Is there a minimum # per day?

        Thanks.

Stay under 20 carbs. And at least half of them being from the veggie lists. Yes you got it. And you need the red cover Atkins book.

            Re: Hi New Atkins Follower

I have the yellow copy. I already know not to get franken foods. How big are the changes between copies? Is there a sticky on here somewhere about it?

My starting weight was 235 lbs and I'm trying to get to 130 lbs.

            1st mini goal: 145! met 12/09
            2nd mini goal: 140!
            3rd mini goal:135!
            4th mini goal: 130!

I drink coffee. I drink when I am thirsty. I am just a low carber. Not on Atkins at all!!! He has everything to do with my weightloss and nothing to do with it, depending on who you ask.
