  • Hi there everyone.

I have been reading threads on here on and off for quite a while.

I lost my mum 10 weeks ago and have had a difficult few years with her health - even so it was sudden and a huge shock when she died. She leaves a massive hole in my life, but I'm so glad she was in it at all.

Anyway, before I start blubbing too much...

The reason I've finally joined this site is because I need a little help, at times, to stay on track. Trying to have a social life and do Atkins is so difficult at times. I just need that little bit of help and experienced advice.

I want to feel as good as I did about four years ago when I was doing Atkins with my mum - we really encouraged one another. Hopefully you guys will be able to help me...and I may even help others myself.

    Thanks for reading.

      Hi and welcome!

      Hi and welcome to ADBB.

We follow the 2002 Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) it would be a helpful for you to have a copy of the book to refer to. All
the information Cindi gave you above can be found here http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/77558-atkins-diet-induction-faqs.html

Make a copy of this list http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html and take it with you when you go to the store. If a food isn’t listed on the acceptable food list don’t eat it. Learn to read the label on all foods you buy - don’t just look at the “carb” number look at the ingredients list of everything and check the ingredients against your list. Just because it says "low carb" doesn't mean you can eat it. Also check for hidden sugars (learn the names used in place of the word “sugar”).

The recipe sites are helpful for meal planning – just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with.

If you need anything we’re here to help you!! Good luck to you!

        Re: Hi there everyone.

I am sorry for your loss. My mom has been fighting her health battles for the past five years and I've been close to losing her several times so your note touched me. I am sure you are still reeling from the past few months but I am glad you are moving toward doing something positive for your own health and wellbeing. I think you will find a lot of support on this site so come frequently and post often. Glad you found us.

I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your mum. I lost my dad almost 18 months ago after a long illness and my mom passed suddenly last year. I understand about the huge shock thing and that massive void in your life.

Kudos to you for jumping on board with Atkins and working on your weight loss right away. I had lost around 60#s (before Atkins) but gained back 80#s last year as I ate my way through my grief. That only made me fatter and did nothing for my sadness.

A year later and I have to say it gets better and the shock is gone. I'm still sad at times but find solace in the memories of all the good years we had together. Concentrating on your diet and getting healthy is a wonderful way to try and get through this difficult time. I'm sure your mum would be happy for you too.

There is lots of great info and support on this board. Please post often.
