  • Gearing up to start!

    Hi all !

To tell you a bit about myself my name is Nina, I'm 27 and I'm really excited about starting Atkins!

Over the last two-three years I've put on a ton of weight. I attribute this to a few things: I stopped teaching excercise and dance classes and became a bartender....I got married and learned how to cook....and I've just been flat out lazy.

I used to have healthy eating habits but sort of fell into a pattern of eating crap, and worst of all snacking! My DH (dear hubby) and I have really both gone from having very healthy habits to totally crappy ones....it was a gradual change, but I am ready to fix it!

I've never been on a diet before. Atkins is attractive to me because I really enjoy protien food, and don't much care for bread, pasta, that kind of thing anyway. I think it will be a good plan for me to follow!!

My only concern is giving up my daily glass of wine....AAAAA!!!!!

Anyway thank you guys for having me I can't wait to join the discussion !

    Welcome.
Sounds like you are at the right place. My love for protein foods is one of the reasons I chose Atkins too. But also because certain bad carbs had become somewhat of an obsession and I needed to change things around.

Well once you get into Atkins and you move up the rungs - you can add that wine back again.

Welcome and congrats on your decision to take action! You won't regret it.
I hear you on the daily glass of wine.... that was the hardest thing for me to give up, at first. Hang in there though, through the first few days, and you'll find things get much easier.
The OWL alcohol rung isn't too far off either, so you'll soon be able to add it back in.

      Happy losing!

Hi NinaMarie! Welcome to the board. There's only one draw-back to the Atkins WOE. Buying clothes every month. What's real cool about the Atkins fat loss is that it comes off proportionally. Unlike low fat diets where the muscle mass loss is too great, Atkins WOE spares protein so not only do you lose weight but, if exercising modestly, it tends to sculpt an impressive physique. Remember, Atkins is not a quick weight loss diet, but a sensible way to achieve the body of your dreams.

              Hi and welcome to ADBB.

We follow the 2002 Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) it would be a helpful for you to have a copy of the book to refer to. At the top of the induction page you’ll find a condensed version of the book - http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/77558-atkins-diet-induction-faqs.html

Make a copy of this list http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html and take it with you when you go to the store. If a food isn’t listed on the acceptable food list don’t eat it. Learn to read the label on all foods you buy - don’t just look at the “carb” number look at the ingredients list of everything and check the ingredients against your list. Just because it says "low carb" doesn't mean you can eat it. Also check for hidden sugars (learn the names used in place of the word “sugar”).

The recipe sites are helpful for meal planning – just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with.
