  • Started this morning

I only have 10 lbs to lose, but it's not the weight so much as it is the fat. I don't weigh much more than I did pre-baby, but the amount of fat on my arms, legs, back and stomach is visibly disgusting. I breast-fed (happily) for a year and ate low fat and walked 3m every day and did yoga 2x a week. And now I am even fatter.

I spend a lot of time at a desk working two jobs and unfortunately my body is starting to look my office chair.

I feel awful already. My head is fuzzy and my mouth dry (water doesn't seem to quench although I am constantly refilling my glass) and I'm extremely nauseated.

I don't know if the Atkins WOL is right for me. I have my doubts, but I'm going to give it all I've got for 14 days and then re-evaluate.

Thinking I may eat a few green beans before I go to bed tonight. I had a dinner salad for both lunch and dinner, but the naseau I have is pretty bad. I don't drink sodas (especially anything diet), but if anyone has any suggestions on the naseau, please advise.

FatNewMomma hoping to be HealthyNewMomma by Christmas.

    Re: Started this morning

It sounds like you have what is termed the "Atkins Flu". If you stick to plan, it should be much better in the next day or two. What's happening is your body is cleansing itself of all the sugars and other nastiness. Once you get past that, you'll feel AMAZING! That's the most addictive part of this WOL...the way you feel once you're doing what's best for your body.

      Hi and welcome to ADBB.

We follow the 2002 Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) it would be a helpful for you to have a copy of the book to refer to. At the top of the induction page you’ll find a condensed version of the book - http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/77558-atkins-diet-induction-faqs.html

You don't have much to loose so as soon as you are finished with induction go right to OWL (ongoing weight loss) and start adding foods back. You are experiencing induction flu - if you need to take some pain releavers go ahead - make sure you are eating foods from the acceptable food list (and nothing else). The symptoms will be gone in a day or two (or maybe you're already through them). Make sure you are eating enough (fats will keep you feeling full longer inbetween meals) and only foods on the acceptbable food list. Why do you have doubts about Atkins? There are plenty of us who have NO doubts that it works - hopefully you will see that also. Make sure you have your measurements as well as your weight at the start so you'll know when you are loosing inches and how many.

Start an exercise plan today -- exercise is mandatory! Drink at minimum of 64 ounces of PURE water (nothing added) daily, take a good multi-vitamin daily and you will be successful. Make a copy of this list http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html and take it with you when you go to the store. If a food isn’t listed on the acceptable food list don’t eat it. Learn to read the label on all foods you buy - don’t just look at the “carb” number look at the ingredients list of everything and check the ingredients against your list. Just because it says "low carb" doesn't mean you can eat it. Also check for hidden sugars (learn the names used in place of the word “sugar”).

The recipe sites are helpful for meal planning – just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with.

Welcome, NewMomma! Ah yes, the Atkins Flu. Some folks really seem to suffer with it. I understand ginger is good for nausea (never tried it myself); ditto, peppermint. So some ginger or peppermint tea might soothe your tummy.

Anyway, if you ride out the temporary misery, you'll be rewarded by feeling ever so much better down the road a piece. It's worth it!

              Re: Started this morning

Thanks everyone for replying to my post. I appreciate the advice and will see about some ginger or peppermint with no carbs to help with the naseau.

I ate 2 eggs and bacon this morning and then a thin slice of a home grown tomatoe out of our garden. I know tomatoes aren't induction approved food, but those three bites of juicy, red perfection stopped the naseau immediately. Plan on having a lettuce salad for lunch and dinner so hoping that I didn't blow it with the tomato.

Cindi- you look great in your picture! and wow, 50 lbs! I bet you feel you can do anything now. What an amazing feat you've already accomplished!

Thanks for the link...looking at it now. I'm trying to pre-plan my meals and snacks as day 2 is producing some real cravings for grains, so I can't wait to read your tips. I think preparation is going to be the key driver on whether I can succeed or not.

Tomatoes ARE allowed during Induction. Here's the list. Home garden tomatoes are the best!

Thanks for letting me know Mizki! I plan on having a slice every day then! (and then hopefully several slices each day after induction)! I live for when my tomatoes come in so knowing that they are a low carb food, is giong to make my "new" WOL so much easier. "Only two things that money can't buy, and that's true love and home grown tomatoes!"

                        Re: Started this morning

I would strongly suggest using a food tracker like FitDay to keep count of your net carbs. Print out that Induction food list and use it to plan your menus. You can have 3 cups of the salad veggies OR (and this sounds like the option you may like) 2 cups of the salad veggies + 1 cup of the other veggies. Tomatoes are in the Other veggies so you could have more than a slice.

p.s. Salad veggies are more than just lettuce. Yay for that!
