  • Hello From UK

    Hello all,

Ok so today is the first day of the rest of my life...it's a cliche but I really feel it. I have read almost all of the posts and bought the dandr book. I have cleared out all my bad food and only have Atkins friendly food in the house. As a fat bird exercise will be tough but I have decided on going back to childhood and bought myself a "rebounder" a little mini trampoline, it's like jumping on the bed
I managed to "bounce" for two whole records today and felt great but completely cream crakered afterwards.
Oh I have also given my friend the scales so I will not be able to weigh myself for two weeks (EEK)

Anyway everyone thats a little about me. Your journeys and stories have been so inspirational to me and have helped kicked my very substantial arse into gear....Thank you. I will keep you posted on how I am getting along.

That's all for now and whatever you do Never let your Karma run over your Dogma xx

PS when I have figured out how to add a ticker I will do it later.

    Re: Hello From UK

    Hi and welcome to ADBB.

We follow the 2002 Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) it would be a helpful for you to have a copy of the book to refer to. At the top of the induction page you’ll find a condensed version of the book - http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/77558-atkins-diet-induction-faqs.html

Make a copy of this list http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html and take it with you when you go to the store. If a food isn’t listed on the acceptable food list don’t eat it. Learn to read the label on all foods you buy - don’t just look at the “carb” number look at the ingredients list of everything and check the ingredients against your list. Just because it says "low carb" doesn't mean you can eat it. Also check for hidden sugars (learn the names used in place of the word “sugar”).

Good for you starting exercising right off the bat -- make sure you keep challenging yourself so you don't get bored and your body doesn't get use to the same thing all the time.

The recipe sites are helpful for meal planning – just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with.

      Hi D
Welcome. Sounds like you are ready. I hope you had a good food day today, your first day. Atkins your new WOE (Way of Eating) can be a bit hard in the beginning but once you get used to it, it will be easier.
Lot's of UKers here. Look around and you'll find them

        Thank you Imagood1 & Liv.

Imagood1....... Good advice and once I have shifted some weight my intention is to try lots of other forms of exercise but after lots of research this rebounding thing seems to have a lot of support from doctors etc and it is GREAT fun and you can combine jogging without the stress of a hard surface and you can use the rebounder as a softer platform for core exercises...I tried to do a sit up!!!! deary me does 1 count??

Liv.......Had a good food day yesterday, Bacon(actually Parma Ham) & Eggs for breakfast, Salmon, bit of mayo & 1 cup chopped mixed salad for lunch and Steak with a Stilton sauce( butter, philly & stilton melted) half cup salad, & half a cup of mushroom fried with 1 cup of onions...mmmmmmm delish. I drank 4 x 750mls of Evian water and took my multivitamin so I think that was OK? Still can't get my head round being able to have 3-4oz of cheese!!!!! though I have decided to only have it couple times a week not every day.

        Day 2 here I come

          Hi Mystic
You are quite a foodie. I loved you menu. Made my mouth water. With creativity like that you are going to make it far.
My tiny concern with your menu is the onion. I know one cup is legal according to the rules. But onions are quite sugary things and therefore carby. One cup probably have over 12 net carbs. So I recommend smaller amounts. I used green onions (scallions) a lot on induction to keep carb numbers down. I love onions.

Are you familiar with www.fitday.com (great place to find out the carb amounts)

And of course one sit up counts. I do recommend not doing sit ups right away down. If you want to do abs exercises - crunches are easier, safer and more effective.
And when it comes to exercise - walking is great stuff. And starting small is the way to go.

            Re: Hello From UK

            Hi Liv,

Will be putting my food intake into fitday when I get some spare time..it looked a bit complicated!!...

According to my packet of onions it is stating 100grams is 4.6 grams of carbs so I weighed the onion and then chopped it & then filled a measuring cupfull I had some onion left....albeit a little... so I figure I was ok with the Carbs, but thank you for the heads up I will certainly substitute the onion for spring onions(green onions) as it is the onion tatse still.

Today so far I have had an omlette with some sliced peppers for breakfast, a tin of Tuna with a cup of salad for lunch and tonight I am planning to have a couple of roasted chicken thighs dusted with Sumaq, a cup of salad & half a cup of roasted tomatoes with a herb butter and half cup of stir fried brocoli. I have also had 3 x 750 mls of Evian, I have to admit I have a bit of a headache but reading other posts it will pass, so roll on that day.

                Hi Focus,

It's good to hear from another Uk gal. You should go for a Rebounder they are great fun and it's surprising how long you can bounce for when you get a good record playing. I have a Reebok 6 legged (apparently better) which can take up to 21 stone (about 300Lbs I think). I love it and as long as you do the "health bounce" for a set length of time the rest of what you do is up to you

Anyway I have to go & cook my chicken for tea. I will definately post as often as I can. Keep in touch

                  Hi Mystic,
Just wanted to wish you all the best on your weight loss journey. You sound very motivated and you have made an excellent start going by your menus so far. I didnt weigh myself until after my 2 week induction, and was pleasantly surprised when i was down 9lbs, so i think you have the right idea with weighing yourself after you have completed Induction.
Im also in the uk, im a Londoner! There is a group called the UK Atkins Group in the social group section, you should come and join us. Look forward to reading more about you in the coming weeks x

                    Hi Cafe,

Thank you, I am so ready not to be fat anymore so I am full of motivation.
Well done for the 9Llbs in induction, I hope for the same, but to be honest anything will do as long as it is a downwards direction! Now if only I could stop my arse going in that direction should give it a passport really, it thinks it's emigrating without me.

Will definately drop by the Uk forum at some time and will keep you posted on my progress.

Keep up the good work cafe it will be so worth it in the end.
