  • Hiya Everybody - Newbie Here!

    Well, as it says on the tin, I'm new here and hoping that I can get some more help as I really feel Atkins is probably the most successful eating plan I've ever encountered.

    I'm 36, and at 5ft and weighing 11st 11lbs I was a good 3-4 stone overweigh according to charts. I was just starting to need wearing size 14 clothes and feeling really uncomfortable. That was back in July, and before I found a supplement in the sunday newspaper which highlighted the problems associated with a wheat intolerance. It recommended cutting wheat and gluten out of your diet and sticking to an atkins type eating plan.

    Since then I've lost 1st 1lb and feeling much better for it. For the first time in about 8 years I've bought a pair of bathroom scales to chart my success. I hadn't thought about measuring myself until I read somebody's suggestion mind! I really need to do this soon.

    Anyway, this is my 4th week and I am struggling to know where I'm really upto? Am I still on induction phase? And what does OWL 1, 2, ,3......mean???

    Looking forward to talking with you all and picking your collective brains.

    I'm 4 days new here, never before done Atkins. I've done WW a few times and it totally works, once lost 56lbs and met my goal, but I always stop.....and so it goes.....lol I am having a realllllly hard time w/ this diet, getting sicked out by eggs and meat now, and trust me I love these things. But serioulsy, how much can you really take!?!? I want a snack, like a real snack, even an apple for G's sake. Anyway enough moaning..lol Good luck to you. I also have a question for you, since I am new, I have an acct, of course I can reply to questions but I want to post one!!!!! HOW do I do tis w/o becomming a paying Supporting Membership?!?!? Pls let me know!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you =)

      You need to read the book so you know what you are doing. OWL stands for Ongoing Weight Loss. Each level is called a "rung" -- Rung 1 is 5 additional net carbs of veggies daily, Rung 2 is dairy, etc. There is a specific way you add foods back into your daily routine but if there is a food you don't care for it's ok to skip that rung. It isn't wise to go from Induction to Rung 8 -- you should go through the rungs the way they are written.

      It's too bad you didn't sign on the board when you started to get help starting. Are you eating foods on the acceptable food list and nothing else? Drinking a minimum of 64 ounces PURE water (nothing added) daily, exercising, taking a good multi-vitamin? These are all parts of the Atkins plan.
