  • I better get skinny is all I have to say =-)

    Hey guys

So I'm on Induction day 4, and it's been a verrry long 4 days. I am 5'1" and started out at 190.4, and yesturday using the same scale I was 187. Not too sure if I have already lost a few lbs but hey, cool if I did!! So I have been on WW a few times, works every time, and once lost 56lbs and reached my goal +4lbs, but I was smokin'..lol I was just a 'gym rat' too just as recently as 4 mo.s ago. So as you can see I battle w/ my weight and I'm totally an "all or nothing" kind of girl. My husband is doing Atkins w/ me and we went shopping for all the meat and cheese you can buy, but I feel like there is nothing to eat, but string cheese and hb egg. I have not cheated, not even once, but I so wanted choc chip mint ice cream, but I didn't buy it. My husband is liking it and says it's getting easier and easier for him......but not so much for me. Anyway, I've been drinking my H2O, eating eggs, cheese, oh my and so much of it, meat, veggies, shrimp...and so on. I feel very grouchy and I feel almost like I'm in mourning over my food I can no longer eat, like I'm kinda sad, is that normal??? Not just craving but a wee bit sad, like a part of my life is missing, and a great part at that!!!

But I know I need to lose weight, I feel gross, look gross and it affects everything in my life. So I'm gonna stick it out until the end of Oct. and then when I drop enough weight go back to WW and hopefully be skinny and healthy for the rest of my life. But my real question is, is that I am getting kind of sickened out by eggs and pls no more tuna and cheese. I feel like there is nothing to snack on but string cheese, and I just ran out of that. What are really good, and cheap snacks I can eat in Induction???? My only treat I can eat is sugar free 0 carb jello, is that it for me, jello for dessert or are there more?? Remember I'm on Induction Phase!!! Oh and I drink Diet Coke, about 4-5 a day, and I will not quit, it's my vise. And I read it's okay, more of a personal choice and I choose to drink it. Remember I'm on Induction Phase. I need all the support and help/ideas I can get. And when will I be at my goal??? LOL I will totally be happy w/ 130lbs, so how long , if I stick to it do you all think I will be at my goal, I am now 186ish!!?

    Thanks guys!!!!

Make a copy of this list http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html and take it with you when you go to the store. If a food isn’t listed on the acceptable food list don’t eat it. Learn to read the label on all foods you buy - don’t just look at the “carb” number look at the ingredients list of everything and check the ingredients against your list. Just because it says "low carb" doesn't mean you can eat it. Also check for hidden sugars (learn the names used in place of the word “sugar”).

I don't know why you feel you can't have any snacks.....you can eat pickles, olives, celery, jimaca, pepperoni chips (watch for sugars). What foods are you missing and mourning over?

As far as sugar free jello - it is not on the acceptable food list and you shouldn't be eating it. Induction is the time to break food and drink addictions so by continuing to drink Diet Coke you aren't helping yourself. How much pure water do you drink daily? You should be drinking a minimum of 64 ounces. What type of exercise are you doing? Are you taking a multi-vitamin?

I hate to say this but it sounds like you don't really want to be on Atkins but are because of your husband. And by following Atkins to loose enough weight to go back to WW doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Check the recipe sites and find foods you can make so you don't be eating the same thing over and over and over.....anyone would get bored that way. I rarely eat the same thing more than once or twice a month.

The recipe sites are helpful for meal planning – just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with.

Oh weird b/c when I read a few diff. things about Atkins it said sf 0 carb jello is a go!!! So if that's not accaeptable then what kind of dessert is???? Or are there none on Atkins??? I mean ppl want dessert right?!?!? Anyway, yep drinking 8 fl ozs H2O every day and vitamins, and I eat plenty of veggies. And no I'm not currenlty excercising, but I will start up soon. It also says that in the Induction phase I shouldn't be eating celery or olives?!?!?! Diff info on diff. Atkins sites!! I'm gonna stick it out until Late Oct and then switch to WW, it makes perfect sense to me. Lose enough weight and then slowly start back on WW. WW is more for life than Atkins. I think Atkins is more of a 'quick weight loss' program but not for life. I just don't think it's realistic to be on it forever, wheras WW I def. can!!! So thank you for the recipe links, I will def. be looking at them!!! =)

During induction you should be breaking all food addictions -- deserts are legal but until you get through induction you should stay away from them.

Where did you read celery and olives aren't allowed on induction? That is totally false - you really need to read the book because you have a lot of misinformation and you aren't doing yourself any favors flying blindly.

Atkins is a lifestyle not a diet -- you will loose rather quickly in induction IF you follow the plan the way it's written but after that your weight loss will slow like on any other weight loss plan so when you say "I think Atkins is more of a 'quick weight loss' program but not for life. I just don't think it's realistic to be on it forever, wheras WW I def. can!!!" it makes me believe you haven't gotten the right information. I've been on WW and would never go back to that way of eating. If you read the book or at least look at all the information on the induction area you will see the first 2 weeks are a little restrictive but after that you start adding foods back in an order that won't cause blood sugar spikes and you will continue to loose weight.

Good luck to you -- read up about this please!

diet coke and sugar free jello have aspartame and aspartame is a known weight loss staller

also keep reading stuff on these forums you will learn all the tricks like that and how to do the diet 100% properly

and remember the start of the diet is the hardest part! your body switches its metabolism and all but after that it gets easier and easier

and remember this is a diet for life when you lose your fat and get to the weight you want but then just go back to eating the foods that made you fat in the first place you cant expect to matain your weight

but trust me the diet will get easier and easier and it will get to a point were you will never want to go off it

also after induction is the OWL and the Rungs there is alot of foods you can add back into your diet but you gotta read up on it to know how to do it properly just look around these forums for the awnsers good luck

Linda's Low Carb Menus & Recipes - Home

this is 'linda's low carb' menus and recipes site! it's wonderful for inspiration. i wouldn't be afraid to try out some of induction friendly desserts and snacks on there. i find that if i really stick with induction eating, having a low carb treat once in awhile is not a problem. i know what you mean by feeling a little sad, i admit it happened to me too. but really after a week on the plan all thoughts of sadness went out the window. atkins food tastes really good to me now and that's what i crave. it's the only way i can survive amongst my friends during lunch and snack times while they are snarfing down the carbs. i just tell myself sugar is poison and atkins is the only way of eating that has worked for me. you have to do what works and sticks for you. good luck hon!
