  • Greetings

    Hello All,

My name is Chad and I have decided to try the Atkins diet. Well, at least the first phase of it. I only need to lose about 3% body fat but I have to do it before October and this seems to be the best way. Honestly I actually wouldn't mind gaining weight...as long as it is the good kind of weight. Anyways, I just wanted to introduce myself and say hi to everyone.

    Re: Greetings

FAIR WARNING: attempting to do only a phase 1 and then going back to the eating habits you have now may cause weight re-gain beyond the starting weight you began at, as well as more easily gaining in the future and more difficulty losing.

        Re: Greetings

Oh I don't plan on going back to my old habits. I still plan on eating healthy, but after I lose the body fat I want to focus on gaining muscle and keeping the fat off. That of course will require a different type of diet and plenty of work outs. I am new to all of this though so if this is a bad idea please let me know. And thank you for the welcomes.

          Hi and welcome to ADBB.

We have a few bodybuilders on the board who can help you with what you need to know about that subject - but until you know the Atkins plan, how it works and why it works you are handicapping your success. It's best to get a copy of the book and read it cover to cover so you know what you are doing.

We follow the 2002 Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR). Until you can get a copy of the book you will find on the top of the induction page, a condensed version of the book - http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/77558-atkins-diet-induction-faqs.html

Make a copy of this list http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html and take it with you when you go to the store. If a food isn’t listed on the acceptable food list don’t eat it. Learn to read the label on all foods you buy - don’t just look at the “carb” number look at the ingredients list of everything and check the ingredients against your list. Just because it says "low carb" doesn't mean you can eat it. Also check for hidden sugars (learn the names used in place of the word “sugar”).

The recipe sites are helpful for meal planning – just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with.

Agreed - Imagood1's suggestion, but consider the stick not a condensed version of DANDR, but rather, only the first phase of it.
