Hi all, I've been reading this board for a few days now and am very excited and encouraged by all that i've read. I need to loose weight desperately. I'm 36years old and have PCOS with insulin resistance. I've never been able to loose any weight on low fat or Weight Watchers, etc. I'm on day 2 of induction and I have to say other then a headache and irritability, my blood sugar levels and appetite have been great! I usually get shakey and hungry in between meals. Today I went till 2pm and didnt' even realize I'd past lunchtime. I have been "peeing" alot and contribute this to that, but I lost 4 pounds so far in 2 DAYS wow. I hope this is the answer I've been praying for. We are trying to have another child and I can't get pregnant because I'm not ovulating. I've read that following a low carb diet will help PCOS and the infertility and restore ovulation. That's my main reason for doing this, along with feeling better and of course weight loss. I'll prob be asking some questions, so bare with me. But thanks for all the encouraging posts and testimonies.

    Re: Newbie

Hi and welcome to ADBB Tricia.

Congratulations on your loss so far!!! The headache and irritability are probably "induction flu" -- it will pass in a couple days and you'll feel wonderful - it's just your body transitioning into keotsis (fat burning) -- yea for you!!

I hope you have a copy of the 2002 Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) to refer to. At the top of the induction page you’ll find a condensed version of the book - http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/77558-atkins-diet-induction-faqs.html

There is a thread here for PCOS if you haven't found it already it's here: PCOS & Atkins Low Carb Living - Atkins Diet.

Make a copy of this list http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html and take it with you when you go to the store. If a food isn’t listed on the acceptable food list don’t eat it. Learn to read the label on all foods you buy - don’t just look at the “carb” number look at the ingredients list of everything and check the ingredients against your list. Just because it says "low carb" doesn't mean you can eat it. Also check for hidden sugars (learn the names used in place of the word “sugar”).

The recipe sites are helpful for meal planning – just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with.

            Re: Newbie

Hi Tricia, I'm kinda new here as well.

I also have PCOS and wish that I had known this diet would help PCOS when I was first trying to fall pregnant ten years ago!!

We had so much trouble conceiving, we had to go through IVF. It was worth it though, we have a beautiful 6yo son called Gus who is the light of our lives.

I'm on it now (5th week) and am losing weight slowly.

Welcome to the board. Everyone is very nice and helpful.

            Thanks, Alison
