this board had good reviews so here I am.
I'm in a 3 month weightloss pool at work for the greatest percentage of weight loss "biggest loser" style - $1000.00 pot.
I'm 5'11 and started at 200lb. With 3 weeks left, I was hovering around 170-171. My only competition I'm worried about is a fairly large fella who is claiming to be losing a lb a day just by not drinking soda and "walking"... I don't know if it's true or not, but I need the edge, so I started induction. I haven't had time to read the book though, since I'm going to school full time as well as full time work and about 90 minutes of exercise a day (plus parking, walking, etc). I need cliff notes or something.
Anyway, I know a lot about the Zone diet and have used it in years past with success. Basically, I've just replaced the carb portion with fats. Boo hiss.
For the first 6 weeks of the competition, I did the Zone and HIIT cardio in the mornings and was losing about 3-4lb a week. Then I plateaued. Infuriating. I was only losing a pound or two a week for weeks. I finally increased my fiber, water and added a 2nd exercise routine to my day (1 hour of low intensity evening cardio) and started see a bit more headway, but not enough. Time for induction.
Wow, I've lost 5 lbs in a week!. I seem to have lost less muscle too (previously losing 1 lb of muscle for every 4lb of fat) . I'm now 165.
So far my biggest issues:
- had some lethargy and headaches for the first few days. gone.
- Water! I can't get enough. I used to get by on 3 quarts a day, now I need five or six
- Electrolytes! I've had to cheat with carbs a bit to get enough. This is the first time I've had electrolyte issues - water was always my thing. Those pills are awful! Within days of starting the diet, I bought UltimaReplenisher - only about 20 calories a serving - sweetened with stevia. Fixed me right up.
- Fiber. Wow, I thought I was low carb before, but I really did eat lots of fruit and vegetables. psyllium seed - 4 tablespoons a day and I still got a rusty gate. Time for some assistance (woops, almost got the chocolate wafers - bad carbs)
Anyway, I have two weeks and 2 days left. Not sure I'll win. My starting goal was 155, but I will probably raise the bar a bit to 160 (+2 or 3 lb with clothes) and that's with dehydrating myself a bit. Also, I'm assuming my 5lbs this weeks is not typical, but if it is , 'Hurray!'
I plan on gaining some muscle mass after this, but with muscle gains, I typically gain a .5 to one pound of fat with every lb of muscle I put on so I'll be doing induction every couple of months since it is so muscle sparing.
