    Hello Viewer!

I would like to start off by saying, WOW! Awesome board, with awesome folks to support/represent it. I would say that it takes a hug amount of courage/faith to do what some of you have done.

Well, I'm here to do the samething hopefully! I haven't gotten the new version of the Atkins Diet but plan on doing so today or tomorrow. I actually used links provided on this board to get started.

A little bit about myself to get to know me/body type. I have always been on the thin side until I ventured off to college. I was raised on a farm in which we had access to endless dairy products, beef and other various proteins. It wasn't long after I left the house that I started putting on the weight. Believe or not, I'm just now putting that together at 36! After thinking about things, I put it together that I was on a high protein low carb diet during my childhood years.

I've developed most likely through weight gain/stress a host of ailments, high blood pressure, Glaucoma, Gout, GERD, Type 2 diabetic, and some that I'm probably forgetting right now. I plan on taking control of my life though this diet. I'm 36, happily married for 16 years with 3 wonderful kids. One of which has a terminal illness called Hurler's Syndrome.

So, with that being said, I started out yesterday morning. I actually feel better believe or not after one day. My sugar level on awaking was 94 rather than in the 200's like the past week. The most that it got up to yesterday was 135, two hours after eating. I'm 5'11" weighing in at 289..

Off to Barnes and Noble...Will have to close my eyes riding by McDonalds. I may have to invest in a nasal device to plug my nose off as well!

    Thanks for reading...

    Re: Hello from NC

    Hi and welcome to ADBB.

We follow the 2002 Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) I hope you to have a copy of the book to refer to now, since you said you were going to get one in your introduction. At the top of the induction page you’ll find a condensed version of the book - http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/77558-atkins-diet-induction-faqs.html

Make a copy of this list http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html and take it with you when you go to the store. If a food isn’t listed on the acceptable food list don’t eat it. Learn to read the label on all foods you buy - don’t just look at the “carb” number look at the ingredients list of everything and check the ingredients against your list. Just because it says "low carb" doesn't mean you can eat it. Also check for hidden sugars (learn the names used in place of the word “sugar”).

The recipe sites are helpful for meal planning – just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with.

      Re: Hello from NC

      Hi Jeff,

I'm up here in Virginia how's it going down there fellow Southerner? I'm 3 weeks in myself and so far so good although I need to get/read the book too. I'm going to follow up on what Imagood1 posted above first though, thanks Carole.

I can relate to some of the manifestations of poor diet that you've experienced. I'm 45 and went to a doctor a month ago just for a yearly physical. My weight had ballooned to 205 (highest ever for me) and for the first time my blood pressure was high as well as my cholesterol. We have a "come to Jesus" discussion so to speak as she wanted to put my on high blood pressure medication and I was against it telling her I will get it to normal through diet and exercise. We made a compromise- she said go on the meds for 3 months and change the diet and come back and see her and we'll reevaluate. I guess that's part of my motivation cause I want to show her what's what!

I want to get back down to around 150 and of course get myself healthy. So far so good I'm in a good place with it all.

      Best to you.

Thanks for the welcome! I've been doing great since I've started. I haven't weighed myself but I feel like I've lost a pound or two already. I feel lighter on my feet and my ankles aren't bothering me as much.

          Thanks Again...
