I have finally started the Atkins diet and really loving it - I'm sure this this site is going to be invaluable although its taking a little time for me to get use to it but if I can run a business I'm sure I will get the hang of it. I live in Australia and the diet is very popular here - it is currently our winter and I have been eating really badly for a few months and doesnt my body know it. Any advice would be welcome....

Re: Just Starting Out
Thank you for your kind words....our winter in Australia is quite warm this year so I'm not looking forward to our summer which can hit to over 40 degress unless I'm swimming everyday.....currently my swimmers would not be fitting me...Ugggh.....but not for long....

Re: Just Starting Out
Hi there KazF,
I'm from Australia too. Northern NSW. The weather today is 35 degrees and hot winds. Drinking lots of water
. We're supposed to drink 2 litres a day on Atkins, probably more cause it's soooo hot.
Welcome to the board and good luck with Atkins
.

Re: Just Starting Out
Hi Alison,
Yes drinking 2 ltrs of water a day is not hard in this weather....How hot is our winter this year -no excuse not to get up early for some exercise...its early days but I'm doing well -just in the first 2 days lost a lot of puffiness due to fluid retention and a major bonus is when I do eat well I get a lot more done in my day anyway thanks for the welcome! Once I get used to the site I will get things posted up, photo, etc

Re: Just Starting Out
Hi and welcome to ADBB Kaz.
We follow the 2002 Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) it would be a helpful for you to have a copy of the book to refer to. (www.amazon.com or www.half.com have inexpensive copies . At the top of the induction page you’ll find a condensed version of the book - http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/77558-atkins-diet-induction-faqs.html
Make a copy of this list http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html and take it with you when you go to the store. If a food isn’t listed on the acceptable food list don’t eat it. Learn to read the label on all foods you buy - don’t just look at the “carb” number look at the ingredients list of everything and check the ingredients against your list. Just because it says "low carb" doesn't mean you can eat it. Also check for hidden sugars (learn the names used in place of the word “sugar”).
Make sure you drink a minimum of 64 ounces of pure water (nothing added), exercise starting today and taking a multi-vitamin withough iron (you should get enough iron with the foods you are eating on Atkins).
The recipe sites are helpful for meal planning – just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with.
