  • New here, not new to Atkins

    Hi all!

I’ve been here before as a lurker. I’ve finally decided to join you as a registered member because I need to stop lying to myself: I CAN’T do this alone. I have friends who live la vida low-carb but they live out of the state and we don't see each other too often. The friends who live close to me don't really care about their weight/health and rarely support me when it comes to losing weight and exercising.

I started Atkins in July and was doing great till I went away for a 4 day weekend. I fell off the wagon miserably and failed to get back on track. I weighted myself this morning for a reality check and saw that I’ve gained back the 11 pounds I lost So tomorrow is the first day of the rest of my life… how many times have you heard that, right?

Seriously I have my induction lists at hand, my pantry and fridge are free of carbs, and I'll do my first week of induction grocery shopping tonight. Quick question - I'm addicted to diet Pepsi, anyone knows a brand of diet soda that I can switch to? When lowcarbing, I limit the Pepsi to 1 or 2 glasses a day (normally just one, but if I'm at work and I'm falling asleep I have a 2nd glass).

    Welcome to !

LOL at the second quote in your siggy.

Editing to add: Oh, and I don't know about Pepsi or diet sodas.

Well welcome. We try to stick together here and hold one another floating.
Yes I am not into sodas either. I think you may have to ask in the induction forum. I think that there is a soda made with splenda that would be OK (maybe OK because some people may not do well with sweeteners)

Make a copy of this list (What foods can be eaten on Induction?)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html and take it with you when you go to the store. If a food isn’t listed on the acceptable food list don’t eat it. Learn to read the label on all foods you buy - don’t just look at the “carb” number look at the ingredients list of everything and check the ingredients against your list. Just because it says "low carb" doesn't mean you can eat it. Also check for hidden sugars (learn the names used in place of the word “sugar”).

Make sure you drink at least 64 ounces of PURE water (nothing added) daily. If you can find Diet Rite you could substitute that for your Diet Pepsi (just make sure you get your water in!!!). I use to drink Diet Rite by the case - now I can't get 1/2 can down before I don't want anymore -- Atkins is the difference!

          Good luck to you again.

          Carole

Re: New here, not new to Atkins

Thanks Carole. Already printed my list. In addition to that I have the Atkins' Eating for Life booklet (2003 edition, has 120 meal plans, a carb log, and a carb-gram counter) and I won’t anywhere without them.

I’ll probably call the Diet Rite people tomorrow to see if their products are available in my area and save myself a headache. Btw, thanks God for google – I thought Diet Rite was a Rite Aid store brand soda

Re the water, I just did the conversion to liters and I'm covered – I drink 2.5 to 3 liters daily. Thanks again!

Hey do you play Unreal Tournament by any chance? Someone I know uses that name.

@ liv, so far it's going ok. I’m not hungry, have lots of energy, and am losing weight. The only thing is that my sleep cycle is messed up. I go to bed by 7:00 pm and wake up around 3:00 am. Ugh.

@kraftmacincheese – if you’re talking to me, nope, I don’t play Unreal Tournament or any other online games (only Tetris but alone).

Glad to hear that things are going well. Too bad about that sleep. You get tired too early? I hope you can correct that. I love to get up early early. It is my me time.

Hi, I think Diet Rite is the "diet " version of RC Cola which as been around at least since the 1960's (RC Cola-not Diet Rite) maybe more. I believe they are also caffeine free. I still see it in the stores here in the Chicago area, but I stopped drinking ALL carbonated products about 4 years ago (except for an occasional S. Pellegrino). I found I felt less bloated and less gassy. It's probably in the stores you shop at but you just never saw it because you weren't looking for it!

Hi, I was addicted to Diet Pepsi and Diet Dr. Pepper. I stopped COLD TURKEY. It's the best way. After a month I started having a soda here and there, and I'll tell you what, on the days I do, the scale does NOT move. I'm convinced that soda will keep people from losing weight. (don't get me wrong, I miss it like crazy! but it's worth it to see the scale move!)

I live alone so I have plenty of ME time LOL
More than tired, I'm sleepy. Right around now and till 7:00 pmish is when I have to really make an effort to stay awake. If I went to bed now, I would wake up around midnight and wouldn't be able to go back to sleep. Ugh.
