  • New and curious about other experiences!

    Hi Everyone!

I'm Jessica, about three weeks ago I started doing Atkins. The first two weeks in induction I barely lost 5 pounds. I started reading the book and so far I noticed I lost 3 lbs in 3 days!

My goal is to loose 22 pounds! So still a pretty long road to go. I've always been chubby and I really hope Atkins will help me become a newer, slimmer me.

Well, this will be all for now.

    Welcome to ADBB, Jessica.

Reading the book really makes one slimmer, doesn't it?

8 lbs is amazing, because you don't have a lot of weight to lose. If you calculate how much you've lost, it's over 25% of the weight you started with. That's excellent.

So did you get to read the exercise chapter in DANDR? What are you doing for your exercise?

Editing to add: Oh, and don't stay too long in Induction. One needs to lose the last 5-10 lbs in Pre-Maintenance, so you need to give yourself time to climb the Carbohydrate Ladder, find your CCLL and your food intolerances before "attacking" the last few lbs.

      Thanks so much Georgiana!

That's true! I didn't think about looking at my loss so far in percentages!

I just posted a new thread about exercise, and yes I did read that chapter. I love exercising, but I am really too tired to work out. I know this is common in the first few days, but since I am in the third week right now I am getting a little bit worried. My normal workout routine looks like this:
10-15min StairMaster (realy helps me get my heart rate going)
15-20min elliptical, I try to do interval training.
      45 min weight training.
I normally also do sit ups and other exercises I don't need the gym for at home.

What do you think? Or someone else?

        Welcome Jessica --
I'm glad you read the book - that is always the best way to start...with all the facts so you'll get the best results possible.

Is the amount of exercise you are doing something new in your life or have you been exercising for awhile? You are right that the first few days you are tired and have a worn out feeling - once you are fully into keotsis you should be experiencing more pep in your day, which will make exercise easier.

How much pure water are you drinking daily? You should be drinking a minimum of 64 ounces (nothing added) daily - anything else you drink should be on the list in the book...decaf coffee not regular, no shakes or bars (they have non-induction allowed ingredients in them).

Here are links to the recipe sites -- make sure you are eating a variety of foods so you won't get tired of the same old thing. Also, make sure you get enough veggies - this isn't an all meat & cheese diet!

The recipe sites are helpful for meal planning – just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with.

Re: New and curious about other experiences!

          Thanks!

I have been exercising off and on for the past couple of years. This year I joined 24 hour fitness in February and have been going every week at least 3 times.

As far as I know, I have been in ketosis now for at least a week and a half (ketostix turn dark pink). At first I got extremely tired and luckily I am not as tired anymore, but still too tired to work out after getting out of work.

I can have the Atkins bars and shakes that say they are allowed in Phase 1 right? Maybe a stupid question, but just to be sure!

Thanks for all the link to the recipes! Quite frankly I was running out of inspiration for breakfast and dinner!

The bars and shakes have non-induction allowed ingredients and are known to make people either stop or slow down their weight loss. The package may say they are legal, but the Atkins company is in business to make money, not to help us get healthy. It's best to stay away from these until you get to the higher rungs, then only in emergency situations.

The color on the stick means you are in keotsis the amount of color doesn't have any effect on keotsis -- you may be slightly dehydrated if the color is dark. I drink 120-150oz of pure water daily and don't show any color on the sticks. They aren't that reliable so if you have other signs of keotsis (strong urine smell, fruity taste in your mouth, bubbles in your urine, etc) you are doing fine.
