  • I'm back after a difficult year

Hi, I'm an old member who is back again after about a 10 month hiatus. I was an active member this time about a year ago, making good progress. When my younger sister suddenly died last November, 2 days before Thanksgiving, I guess I kind of went into a depression, she was my best friend. I stopped eating right, started drinking too much, smoked like a chiminey and got little exercise for the last 9 months. Now I feel like absolute crap and know its time to turn my life around, she wouldn't have wanted to see me go this way.

I've already put the alcohol aside as of a couple of weeks ago, and figure now its time to get back into Atkins and hopefully start feeling better physically soon. The cigs will be the next to go.

I weighed this morning and to my suprise was only up 1 pound from where my ticker shows I left off last year. But the truth is, I think I have more fat than muscle than I did at almost the same weight, I feel so weak and look more fluffy than I did at just a pound more.

Well, I'm back, gonna work the program and hopefully stick with it this time. I started induction this morning. I'm anxiously going off now to find old members posts that I remember and celebrate their successes while I was drowning my sorrows in beer.

Re: I'm back after a difficult year

    Welcome back Barb–

It sounds like you have had quite a year -- I'm glad you made the decision to take your health back into your life with Atkins. Just to refresh your memory here is a little info to help get you started.

Because your lifestyle and other things are different, you may not loose as quickly or as much as before during induction, so don’t compare what happened “the last time”. Follow the plan the way it is written – hopefully you have a copy of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR). Start exercising right away, drink plenty of pure water (64 ounces minimum daily – nothing added) and you’ll be on your way to loosing before you know it – don’t forget to get all your vegetables in daily!.

At the top of the induction page you’ll find a condensed version of the book - http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/77558-atkins-diet-induction-faqs.html. Make a copy of this list http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html - take it with you when you go to the store. If a food isn’t listed on the acceptable food list don’t eat it. Learn to read the label on all foods you buy - don’t just look at the “carb” number look at the ingredients list of everything and check the ingredients against your list. Just because it says "low carb" doesn't mean you can eat it. Also check for hidden sugars (learn the names used in place of the word “sugar”).

Check the STAC Second Time Around Club - Atkins Diet for additional support. Check the stickies at the top of the induction forum to refresh your memory on the plan. http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/5781-before-you-begin-atkins-nutritional-approach.html. Also look at the challenge section to see if there is anything you might be interested in.

The recipe sites are a helpful meal planning tool – just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with.

      Hi Barb!
I am so sorry for your loss. I understand the pain of loss, myself, and know what it means to not take care of ones self while grieving. It is a huge step and a lot of hard work to pull yourself together and make the effort to take care of yourself once more. I am a new one around here, so did not meet you before, but welcome back! I hope your journey is met with a lot of success and that your heart does some more healing along the way!

      Hugs to you!

        Barb,

I'm so glad that you're back too!

I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your sister. That must have been incredibly difficult! I went through the loss of my best friend from Cancer last August and started to gain weight and hide out and went off program too. But, you are right... that is NOT the life that that she would have wanted for me.

So, congratulations to both of us! We are back. I'm very proud of you. You are kicking two habits at once!!! WOW! And, what's really cool... you've only put one pound on. I know you feel like you have more fat than muscle, but, that will turn around quickly.

Hugs, and I look forward to seeing you on the bb.
