  • Finally Registered!

    Hello all,

I have been following posts on this website for the past 7 days (I am on day 7 of induction) and have learned an immense amount from all of you! I finally decided to register for the site so I can contribute to the conversations and ask some questions for myself...and I have many!

I am 21 years old, and I decided to begin trying to lose weight in January. I am a member at Sparkpeople.com where I track my meals, nutrients, etc. In the 7 months between January and July I was on a 1500 calorie per day diet, and I only lost 10 pounds. In seven months!! Fed up with those results, I begun thinking about Atkins as an option.

I have PCOS which is known to cause weight gain and insulin resistance, so the Atkins seems like a great option for me. So far on induction I have lost 6 pounds, but I plan to make some changes to my induction foods starting tomorrow. For the first week I have been drinking diet soda and crystal lite, which to my horror I have discovered has been known to stall many people (thanks to posts on this site). So, I am testing out how much weight I lose this week while drinking aspartame and starting tomorrow I will do the second week without any artificial sweeteners to see the difference it may make. Sadly, I am hoping there will be an insignificant difference so that I can continue indulging in the crystal lite lemonade.

Anyways, I am excited to be here and glad to finally be a member. Glad to meet you all!

    Re: Finally Registered!

    Hi YSun!

    Welcome to the

Congratulations on day 7 of induction and the 6 pounds that you've lost. That's really a great start already. It's also great that you've learned about what crystal light can do and you're eliminating that from your induction. I had to do the same thing. It's amazing how much water helps. So, try and increase the amount of water that you're drinking, it will really help to flush the body and increase the weight loss. But you've done great so far... 6 pounds in a few days is awesome!

Most of the people on the site use Fitday.com to track their progress. It's a FREE site and it's wonderful.

I'm so excited about your progress... Way To Go!

      Welcome to the Atkins Board.

The 2002 Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) is the book we follow here. It would be a helpful for you to have a copy of the book to refer to (
www.amazon.com or www.half.com have inexpensive copies). At the top of the induction page you’ll find a condensed version of the book - (Atkins Diet Induction FAQs)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/77558-atkins-diet-induction-faqs.html

Make sure you drink a minimum of 64 ounces of pure water (nothing added), exercise starting today and taking a multi-vitamin without iron (you should get enough iron with the foods you are eating on Atkins).
Check all around the board for everything there is to, there is a challenge section with both exercise and non exercise challenges, Rate My Menu for help with your food, journaling – something for everyone.

Make a copy of this list
(What foods can be eaten on Induction?)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html and take it with you when you go to the store. If a food isn’t listed on the acceptable food list don’t eat it. Learn to read the label on all foods you buy - don’t just look at the “carb” number look at the ingredients list of everything and check the ingredients against your list. Just because it says "low carb" doesn't mean you can eat it. Also check for hidden sugars (learn the names used in place of the word “sugar”).

Water is the first thing you should be pushing in your system -- not aspartame/flavored drinks. Atkins is about whole foods over processed foods -- here are the ingredients in your Lemonade Crystal Light:

      Crystal Light Lemonade
      Ingredients:
Citric Acid Provides Tartness , Potassium Citrate Controls acidity , Aspartame Sweetener , Maltodextrin, Magnesium Oixide Prevents Caking , Natural Flavor , Acesulfame Potassium Sweetner, Lemon Juice Solids , Artificial Color, Yellow 5 Lake , BHA Preserves Freshness , Phenylketonurics Contains Phenylalanine

Here are the ingredients in pure water:

      Water

See the difference??? Occasionally 1 glass of crystal light would be ok - but plain water should be your main goal daily.

The recipe sites are helpful for meal planning – just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with.
