  • Hello Im Brandspanking New (ish),

    Hi Everyone,

I joined this forum about 2-years ago, wanting to start atkins, I tried one or two days of atkins but I dont think I did it properly. That was my only experience on Atkins, eveyone recommended i get the book which i did, the Atkins essential with a two week induction plan, is that the one i should do coz i notice u can snack on muffins chocolate mudslide etc on the Induction in the Atkins book.

Anyway, I havent posted here for about two years, and when I last joined I didnt post much, but Im back and really want to give this a try.

I have so many questions to ask regarding Induction but I will post another thread in the Induction section.

At the time, when I first Joined this site, I was living in Oxford England, two years later I got married two months ago to a Canadian, we currently in South Africa at the moment, and there are no Atkins products here, which sux coz to my understanding, so many South Africans are following the Atkins diet, and they sell the books everywhere, so it doesnt make sense.

So perhaps we could get some Atkins products here to SA or someone could start selling and importing them here, and make a fortune, ah just an idea, would be nice if we could get half the stuff here.

Anyway hi everyone for the second time, I plan to start Induction after my husbands birthday which is about 1/ and half weeks away.

I admire all you who have lost weight on Atkins, your pics look great

That book was written after Atkins death and they are really pushing products in that book and I think they are basically telling you to cheat because they want to sell stuff. The book we use is called Dr.Atkins New Diet Revolution (first published in the US in 2002) That is the one you need.

Atkins products are no good. What you need are whole foods. Meat, eggs, fish, vegetables. Those are going to be the only things you eat the first two weeks of the programme.

Good work on learning about the programme before you start. It works if you work it.

Ths one is called The Atkins Essentials

Every meal on the 14 day meal plan in the book totalys 19 net carbs
Im confused? so I should buy another Atkins book? all im looking for is a two week meal plan to follow for Induction.

The company that took over after Atkins death is a commerical company. They want to sell products. They are not worried about keeping to the diet. That is not the book we follow here. We do DANDR only. It is not only important to stay low on carbs, it is important to get rid of some kind of carbs.

Even the company themsleves have changed from Atkins essential book. Clearly becasue the suggestions in that book did not make people lose weight.

I really recommend getting the right book.

The Atkins Essential is not a great book. And the meal plans tells you to cheat on induction. Soemthing Atkisn himself called "the kiss of death"

Re: Hello Im Brandspanking New (ish),

            Welcome to the Atkins Board.

It's too bad you didn't start with the book we use when you first started. Like Liv said, the Atkins company is in the business of making themselves money, not for helping us get our health back.

You can find a fairly inexpensive copy of the 2002 DANDR book here
www.amazon.com or www.half.com. At the top of the induction page you’ll find a condensed version of the book - (Atkins Diet Induction FAQs)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/77558-atkins-diet-induction-faqs.html

Make sure you drink a minimum of 64 ounces of pure water (nothing added), exercise starting today and taking a multi-vitamin without iron (you should get enough iron with the foods you are eating on Atkins).

Check all around the board for everything there is to, there is a challenge section with both exercise and non exercise challenges, Rate My Menu for help with your food, journaling – something for everyone.

Make a copy of this list
(What foods can be eaten on Induction?)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html and take it with you when you go to the store. If a food isn’t listed on the acceptable food list don’t eat it. Learn to read the label on all foods you buy - don’t just look at the “carb” number look at the ingredients list of everything and check the ingredients against your list. Just because it says "low carb" doesn't mean you can eat it. Also check for hidden sugars (learn the names used in place of the word “sugar”).

The recipe sites are helpful for meal planning – just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with.

Re: Hello Im Brandspanking New (ish),

Junglebaby, to ADBB. I know it seems like it would be great to have those products but the 2002 book is still based on real foods and the Atkins products have been found to stall many people. They are full of highly processed ingredients that are not allowed in the two week Induction period.

I live in China most the year where, like SA, few products from outside are available. I actually find it much easier to stick on plan there than when I am in the US where so many low carb foods are available. Lack of temptation I guess.
