  • Hi All!

    Hi There,

Just thought I'd take a moment to introduce myself and tell you my story.

I first did atkins back in 2003 when I was a 18, around exam time I locked myself away, studied hard and lost around 50lbs. By the time summer came around I graduated top of my year and people walked past me in the street because they didn't recognise me! My confidence was at an all time high, brilliant for moving away to university!

Whilst I had an amazing time during the first year of uni, being 18 and having more important concerns...the diet fell by the wayside and I put all the weight back on, then some!

I've recently re-read the book and around a month ago re-introduced myself to the atkins way of life. I'd completely forgotten the science behind the diet and so have read with an older mind and so have been unable to put it down!

I started on the diet in early August, and in 2 weeks lost 16lb, fantastic!! I went to visit my parents in their holiday home in Spain and managed to stick to the diet (staying away from Paella was the biggest demonstration of self control EVER) ! When I came back I had a few parties, and dinners alongside a bit of boyfriend troubles and decided to throw the diet to the wayside, just for a few days.

I binged. For four days. On every imaginable carb. Ice cream, chocolate, take aways, Chinese food, Indian food, the food was fabulous - the effects were the worst I've ever experienced in my life! For four days I suffered from constant hear burn, cramp in my legs, lethargy, insomnia, my stomach was, to put it politely..in pieces.

    NEVER AGAIN.

Having re-read the book, and taking special interest in the science behind it (I'm 100% convinced I suffer from hyperinsulism) I'm back on the programme for the long run.

I failed after the first three weeks, but I figure your only ever a real failure once you give up, everything else is just a hiccup!

I'm excited to this time be part of a community all working towards a single goal, you guys do inspiration so much better than us brits!

    Re: Hi All!

    Welcome back –

I'm glad you have the cheating bug behind you -- now you can settle down and get serious about taking your health into your hands! Good for you.

Start exercising right away, drink plenty of pure water (64 ounces minimum daily – nothing added) and you’ll be on your way to loosing before you know it – don’t forget to get all your vegetables in daily!.

Make a copy of this list http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html - take it with you when you go to the store. If a food isn’t listed on the acceptable food list don’t eat it. Learn to read the label on all foods you buy - don’t just look at the “carb” number look at the ingredients list of everything and check the ingredients against your list. Just because it says "low carb" doesn't mean you can eat it. Also check for hidden sugars (learn the names used in place of the word “sugar”).

Check the STAC Second Time Around Club - Atkins Diet for additional support. Check the stickies at the top of the induction forum to refresh your memory on the plan. http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/5781-before-you-begin-atkins-nutritional-approach.html. Also look at the challenge section to see if there is anything you might be interested in.

The recipe sites are a helpful meal planning tool – just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with.

          Re: Hi All!

          Thanks guys,

I actually think that falling off the wagon was the best thing that could have happened, because it highlighted just how badly my body reacts to carbs!

I think another thing that turned me to carbs was that my weight loss stalled in the third week, but having read some of the other posts I now realise that this is entirely normal and I just have to power through!

At the beginning of the year I gave myself a goal of loosing 42lbs, so I'm a good halfway through the weightloss but two thirds through the year! I did this by doing a 'traditional' diet and sporadically going to the gym. Going to have to use atkins and lots of exercise to get me through!

Will be very keen to take part in the exercise challenges!
