  • Induction Phase...here I come!

Hello everyone, Newbie here. I just started this morning on the induction phase. My husband is also doing induction with me as well so thats a positive. This message board has truly been my motivation and inspiration to get started doing Atkins full force. I have made my meal and exercise plan out for the week and going to go by it all week. I think planning week to week will be good for me. Went to the grocery store yesterday and purchased only items needed for the week and also prepared some meals in advance to save time.

Does anyone else plan ahead a week in advance to help them from straying or should I say cheating?

      Welcome to the board!

I used to plan my meals ahead of time but anymore with other people doing the cooking, I find that I have to adjust to whats being served. But they know what I can eat and what I can't so there is always something I can have.

But you have the right idea because if you're the one in charge of meals, having a plan can be a life saver! It eliminates the urge to be looking through the cupboards for a snack. Be sure you plan for snacks because they can really sidetrack you if you go for the wrong thing.

Good luck to both of you!

          Welcome to the Atkins Board.

The 2002 Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) is the book we follow here. It would be a helpful for you to have a copy of the book to refer to (
www.amazon.com or www.half.com have inexpensive copies). At the top of the induction page you’ll find a condensed version of the book - (Atkins Diet Induction FAQs)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/77558-atkins-diet-induction-faqs.html

When I first started I had a meal, exercise and water schedule to keep me on track. I still take a day here and there to cook extra so I have things in the freezer for days I don't want to cook or don't have time. Last week I made double batches of Texas Chili and Cabbage soup -- now I can have several meals in a few minutes! I think pre-planning is a great way to do things! Congrats on getting your husband to do this with you - it helps when you aren't the only one. I've had to learn to cook for 3 when I'm the only Atkins person in the house. I usually start with all of us eating the same meat and add from that for each of us (my mother and the hubs are the other 2 I cook for). Keep up the great work - you'll do fine!

Make sure you drink a minimum of 64 ounces of pure water (nothing added), exercise starting today and taking a multi-vitamin without iron (you should get enough iron with the foods you are eating on Atkins).

Check all around the board for everything there is to, there is a challenge section with both exercise and non exercise challenges, Rate My Menu for help with your food, journaling – something for everyone.

Make a copy of this list
(What foods can be eaten on Induction?)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html and take it with you when you go to the store. If a food isn’t listed on the acceptable food list don’t eat it. Learn to read the label on all foods you buy - don’t just look at the “carb” number look at the ingredients list of everything and check the ingredients against your list. Just because it says "low carb" doesn't mean you can eat it. Also check for hidden sugars (learn the names used in place of the word “sugar”).

The recipe sites are helpful for meal planning – just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with.
