  • Mrnice is here!

    Hey all, Mrnice here!

Happy to be a part of the community.

I am actually just finishing my first two weeks of my "atkins-like" diet. I did this diet 5 years ago for 3 months or so and lost 40 pounds. It's similar to atkins except I ate roughly 0 carbs my first 2 weeks instead of the 20g or so that you are allowed. I still eventually added carbs into the diet until I was at a relatively stable point.

So, after the diet I was eating without worrying too much and I didn't gain it back easy! My body was burning fat and it worked out great.

So far this time around, I lost 8 pounds the first week, but hit a plateau the second week (staying the same weight the whole week!). I will probably make my first post in general discussion about this plateau...but I'm happy to be here and look forward to hearing of your stories!

I'm also considering switching over from my off-version of the diet to the real thing.

    Welcome to the Atkins Board.

The 2002 Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) is the book we follow here. It would be a helpful for you to have a copy of the book to refer to (
www.amazon.com or www.half.com have inexpensive copies). At the top of the induction page you’ll find a condensed version of the book - (Atkins Diet Induction FAQs)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/77558-atkins-diet-induction-faqs.html

A plateau or stall is 4 weeks without loosing inches OR pounds, so you are in a pause I would say. There are other sites that follow other so called Atkins or Atkins-like diets but this one is dedicated to Atkins the way the 2002 DANDR book was written.

Make sure you drink a minimum of 64 ounces of pure water (nothing added), exercise starting today and taking a multi-vitamin without iron (you should get enough iron with the foods you are eating on Atkins).

Check all around the board for everything there is to, there is a challenge section with both exercise and non exercise challenges, Rate My Menu for help with your food, journaling – something for everyone.

Make a copy of this list
(What foods can be eaten on Induction?)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html and take it with you when you go to the store. If a food isn’t listed on the acceptable food list don’t eat it. Learn to read the label on all foods you buy - don’t just look at the “carb” number look at the ingredients list of everything and check the ingredients against your list. Just because it says "low carb" doesn't mean you can eat it. Also check for hidden sugars (learn the names used in place of the word “sugar”).

The recipe sites are helpful for meal planning – just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with.

If you need anything we’re here to help you!! I hope you decided to follow the plan the correct way! Good luck to you!

        Mr Nice,

        Welcome

One of the wonderful things about being at the is you don't ever have to worry about sounding stupid here, this is a really great group of supportive friendly people.

I was able to read your post earlier but was running around so I didn't have time to respond. I think you'll be really happy if you try the Atkins approach from induction as laid out in the book. People have great success and I would be very surprised if you didn't. Stay on line and look for a support group. Ask for help along the way. You'll be surprised at how well you'll do at that 20 grams of carbs a day during the induction phase.

              Re: Mrnice is here!

              Thanks all!

I just went shopping and bought some broccoli and low-carb dip as well as other allowed vegetables. I have nothing to drink today (I'm at work) other than water.

My only issue now is to start getting used to counting what I eat (how many tbsp of X did I have in XYZ dinner). Actually, having 0 carbs/day felt easier since I would be able to eat a good amount of 0 carb stuff and not worry about it adding up to more then 2-3 carbs (assuming some of it was 0~.4999 carb each)

                Re: Mrnice is here!

20 carbs is roughly 3 cups of loosely packed veggies or salad (that are allowed in inductions)
better to divide that in to 3 meals.

                  Re: Mrnice is here!

Ah thank you. Boy I feel stupid having NO veggies the first 2 weeks. I was also not going to the bathroom at all. With these new veggies + a lot more water I should hopefully be seeing the change I'm looking for soon enough!

Mr. Nice -- even things that say they are zero carb have some carbs in them -- water is probably the only thing on earth that is truly zero carb. It sounds like you are off to a better start. Like Liv said, divide your veggies between all meals - they help keep you full longer and also veggies, along with water will keep everything flowing.

                      Good luck to you!
