Congratulations on your decision to make a change. There are a lot of helpful people here on the site. My advice would be to follow the plan. Pretty plain and simple, huh? lol. Don't get discouraged either, people lose weight differently. I wish you luck on the journey you are about to take! YOU CAN DO IT!!!! Take care.

      Re: Starting Diet on Monday

My advice is to have realistic expectations of weight loss.

Many people get fooled by the initial rapid loss of water during induction and think the whole diet is going to give them similar losses. It can be pretty discouraging to find out that it isn't so.

If you can steadily lose 1 to 3 pounds a week, you're doing great.

        Welcome to the Atkins Board.

The 2002 Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) is the book we follow here. It would be a helpful for you to have a copy of the book to refer to (
www.amazon.com or www.half.com have inexpensive copies). At the top of the induction page you’ll find a condensed version of the book - (Atkins Diet Induction FAQs)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/77558-atkins-diet-induction-faqs.html

Make sure you drink a minimum of 64 ounces of pure water (nothing added), exercise starting today and taking a multi-vitamin without iron (you should get enough iron with the foods you are eating on Atkins).

Check all around the board for everything there is to, there is a challenge section with both exercise and non exercise challenges, Rate My Menu for help with your food, journaling – something for everyone.

Make a copy of this list
(What foods can be eaten on Induction?)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html and take it with you when you go to the store. If a food isn’t listed on the acceptable food list don’t eat it. Learn to read the label on all foods you buy - don’t just look at the “carb” number look at the ingredients list of everything and check the ingredients against your list. Just because it says "low carb" doesn't mean you can eat it. Also check for hidden sugars (learn the names used in place of the word “sugar”).

The recipe sites are helpful for meal planning – just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with.

If you need anything we’re here to help you!! Good luck to you!

something that helps me is a journal.every day I write me feelings, wt,every bite I eat. Also a ledger listing all the things negative about being heavy and the poitives of being a normal weight.Get that one written asap.Trying on clothes that you have out grown frequntly will tell more than scales.SO nice to finally fit in them, then when they become too big.

              Re: Starting Diet on Monday

My best advice, granted I am a rookie, is to think about and look at the ingredients in EVERYTHING you eat - don't automatically assume anything is okay at first, including spice mixes (does it have sugar?) and any kind of condiments (regular mustard has zero carbs, but I have a spicy mustard with horseradish that has one carb instead of zero), look for fillers in any processed foods that may cause problems, and don't eat anything with aspartame (which seemed to hold me up for a couple of weeks) in it like diet jello or diet drinks.

Have patience if you have a stall in your weight loss (but re-look at what you are eating or not eating) - I lost nothing for two weeks after two weeks of losing, but held in there, removed aspartame items, and lost 8 pounds over the next week.

              Good luck - it works!

                Re: Starting Diet on Monday

I also recommend you try one of the online sites where you can track your food intake and let it calculate your carbs, fiber, protein, etc (or do it yourself on paper). It takes a little while to get it set up but then is easier after the first several days. I figured it in my head for the first several weeks, but when I started logging it on fitday dot com, realized I was actually having about 3 to 5 carbs more a day than I thought I had been.

                    hey guys,
thanks so much for the support

Ive been drining loads of water and im completly full! never thought i could drink 8 bottles of water in one day!

I could do with helpful critism regarding what I ate today if you guys can tell me if Im on the right track!

Breakfast: 2 slices of bacon and a fried egg! yum, i didnt feel hungry till 5pm weird!

Tea: Steak with leafy salad (small) and I used some cesar dressing, it has 1g of carbohydrate per serving (Im allowed 20 right?)

just this evening I ate 2 cheese strings which have trace carbohydrates

Throughout the day I have drank more water than Ive done for years!

Thanks everyone, I hope I can achieve what you guys have done! xxx

                        Re: Starting Diet on Monday

make sure you eat every 6 hours -- that keeps your blood sugar steady and will prevent cravings or overeating later in the day. When I'm not hungry at lunch time I get 1 cup of something off the "other vegetable" list and make sure I get higher carb veggies in me -- that way later in the day I can have a salad and some raw vegetables and I'm good for the day.

I also eat vegetables at each meal -- great job on the water!! Keep it up.
