Hi there.
I found this board last night during a google search for recipes. (not even low carb recipes.) I belong to another low carb board, but quit going due to guilt. The first time I did Atkins, I lost 14 lbs in the first two weeks. I started having trouble with my legs swelling, and since that was the only thing I was doing differently, I stopped following the Atkins plan. The water retention subsided a small amount, but I still have a lot of trouble with it, and that was over 10 years ago. I had medical test after test ran, second opinions, third opinions, etc, and no one can figure out why I'm having the swelling. I'm wondering now if it could be all the junky things they feed animals to make them more "beefy" that is being passed onto me. I dunno.
A couple of years ago, I followed the plan for about a solid year. I exercised, drank lots of water, ate on plan, and lost very little weight. 3 or 4 lbs a month, or less. It was getting very hard to stay positive, when people would post about losing that every week, or few days. When they would complain about only losing 10 lbs for the month, I would get real down, and wonder why I was even trying. I kept on, but after awhile just gave up.
My lowest weight that I have recorded is 307 lbs on 9/16/07. By New Years Eve that year, I was up to 316. Now I am up to 350.
According to Fit day, my projected weight is gaining 2 lbs every 4 weeks. Not acceptable.
Even if I only lose 2 lbs every 4 weeks, it's better than where I am right now.
After reading some of the posts on the board, I'm getting geared up to get back at it. I'm already drinking water (which I gave up too.) My son wants to go somewhere today, so we are going to head over to the nearest state park and hit some trails. I had a banana for breakfast and I'm already over 20 carbs today, and I'm sure I will be more because of veggies later today, but tomorrow I will forego the banana.
I'm glad I found this board. I'm still not completely ready to follow the plan, as yesterday when I got groceries I wasn't even thinking about it. I just decided this morning.
Thanks.
