  • Brand new to the board

I am a big believer in this diet because I have lost 28 lbs on it. I found it to be so easy, but that was 13 years ago!

I fell off the wagon and gained it all back.
I had thyroid surgery 7 months ago and have been on Levothyroxine for a month. (I had 1/2 thyroid removed due to a large nodule.) I now have 25 pounds to lose.

I have tried watching what I eat, but I am watching the scale go up! I read a book on the thyroid and it was suggested that low carb dieting was a good way to go for thyroid patients.

I have started the diet, but I am going to refresh my memory by re-reading the Diet Revolution book. I am hoping to make friends here and learn how to stay on the diet and get new recipes, etc.

I am so glad to know you are here. Back when i was doing the diet before, the Internet was just being used by a few people in the office.

Welcome Browneyes and good for you for rereading the book. That is truly the best way to get back on track. Just know that this site uses the 2002 version which is very different from the earlier versions so you may want to pick up the 2002 DANDR or it will may be confusing when we give advice as it will conflict somewhat with the version you used way back when.

        Welcome back to Atkins Browneyes.

I hope you’ve read the 2002 Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR), as Jill told you, it’s the book we follow on this bulletin board. It would be a helpful for you to have a copy of the book to refer to (
www.amazon.com or www.half.com have inexpensive copies). At the top of the induction page you’ll find a condensed version of the book - (Atkins Diet Induction FAQs)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/77558-atkins-diet-induction-faqs.html but the book gives you more information and is invaluable to have to refer to.

Make sure you drink a minimum of 64 ounces of pure water (nothing added), exercise starting today and taking a multi-vitamin. Make a copy of this list (What foods can be eaten on Induction?)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html and take it with you when you go to the store. If a food isn’t listed on the acceptable food list don’t eat it. Learn to read the label on all foods you buy - don’t just look at the “carb” number look at the ingredients list of everything and check the ingredients against your list. Just because it says "low carb" doesn't mean you can eat it. Also check for hidden sugars (learn the names used in place of the word “sugar”).

Check the STAC Second Time Around Club - Atkins Diet for additional support. Check the stickies at the top of the induction forum to refresh your memory on the plan. http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/5781-before-you-begin-atkins-nutritional-approach.html. Also look at the challenge section to see if there is anything you might be interested in

The recipe sites are helpful for meal planning – just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with.

Re: Brand new to the board

Thanks to everyone who replied to my first post! I did go and get DANDR. I also got Dr.Atkins Diet Revolution Essentials.

I am going to check out the thyroid forum too. I didn't realize there was one. The diet makes so much sense especially the later phases.

          Thanks again.
