  • Hello Everyone. I start tomorrow. I'm very excited.

I will be going to the grocery store tonight to stock up on anti-carbs. Tomorrow morning I plan to get up early and go for a run/jog. I've been wanting to get back to a daily run for a while(years), but always found a reason not to(namely sleep, or lingering scotch in my system). No more excuses.

I know the Atkins Diet works, because I went on it almost a decade ago, when I was in high school. If memory serves, I weighed in at around 290. Over the course of a couple months I managed to loose around 30lbs. I came off the diet when my family attended an out of state wedding for my cousin. I never went back on it. I don't know why. Looking back, it was one of the biggest mistakes of my life.

My poor choice of lifestyle has kept me in the range of 285 to 300 for the last several years, weight gain barely being kept at bay by labor intensive electrical construction in the oppressive southern heat. I was somewhat recently laid off due to a lack of available work. Without being forced to burn thousands of calories every day carrying materials, climbing ladders, and walking stairs, all the carbs I've been consuming have found their way to a nice neat home in my gut. My belly button has become a void, the depths of which often collect enough cotton to clothe a small african villiage. This is the perfect time to get this remodel underway. With an ideal diet to manipulate body chemistry, a vastly increased exercise regiment(downloaded the army's pocket physical training guide), and hopefully the support of some new friends(hint, hint), I should have no problem getting my life on track. With a little luck and a lot of work, I'll be moving to Hawaii within two years.

I'm eager to share my progress through words and pictures, and to also follow yours. Feel free to reply or PM me. I know it may seem that I talk more than necessary, but I'm just really excited right now!

By the way, my name is Gene.

Glad you are getting started. Are you sure you want to stress your knees and hips with jogging at 300lb?.I see a whole lot more downside than good that come out of that.I know for me at over 250 lbs and being tall, jogging was rough on my knees.I think it is natural that when one makes the decision to do something about their weight, they want to incorporate an exercise program and go gung ho.In my experience, sticking to a strict diet is what will make you lose.Plenty of time to tone up after some weight comes off.Go easy and good luck.

Hi Gene, and and Hannah, and all others here!!

My husband and I are also starting the 14 day induction tomorrow, 9/14!

Maybe we can check in with each other and help motivate! I also am making a shopping list, and planning out menus for the week. During the week, everything is so rush rush around here with our son's homework, lessons, etc. We both work. I need to have the eating be a no brainer.

I'm excited to be able to eat grilled meat, with a good salad and dressing. I also am going to experiment with a couple mayo bases sauces, which sound like they would go well with meat and cooked vegis, and are fast and easy to make.

                    We can do this!!

Re: Hello Everyone. I start tomorrow. I'm very excited.

thanks for the kind words everyone. And to Phil, I think you're right. I don't want to do permanent damage to my knees with the repeated shock of my frame crashing down on them. Yesterday, I went over to a friend's house and bought two old unused exercise machines he's had sitting in his garage for a couple years. They both look like "as seen on TV" machines, but whatever. Something is better than nothing. One is an "aeROBIC Rider" and the other is an "AIR TECH GLIDER". Between an hour or so a day on them, and a brisk walk around the nighborhood(2 miles maybe?) before sunrise every morning, I should be able to get in more than enough exercise. I'm still going to use the Army's conditioning drills and cool down drills.

On a side note, I have been drinking alot more water in the last week than I was previously accustomed to, but just yesterday I started keeping track of how much. I bought a case of bottled water at the local discount supermarket. The bottles are 16.9 fl oz. each. I drank 4 of them yesterday(and nothing else). It seemed hard to get that last bottle in, but I think that may be mostly because I was conscious of how much water I was drinking. I feel like I was drinking at least that much water before I started counting. Probably just a mental thing I am going to have to work through.

All in all, I expect to start melting very shortly.

Oh yeah, does anyone know if Walmart, CVS, or Walgreens sells those ketosis pee strips? I remember using those long ago and how motivating it was to see the color showing that my body was a fat burning machine. Do they even make those things anymore?

Hi Gene - sounds like you are very motivated - great attitude, it will serve you well. Yes, you can get the sticks at Walmart or walgreens [not sure about CVS].

I joined a challenge to drink 100 oz of water a day, it can be done...and you're right, it probably is 'just a mental thing'...I always thought I drank alot, but 100 is pushing it for me; but I do it, every day!

Have fun and looking forward to hearing your progress.
