  • Happy to be on Atkins

Hi ADBB! I've been kicking around the boards for a few days so thought I should say hello.

I'm either at the end of Day 1 or Day 3 but either way, happy to be on Atkins! Day 1 I ate extra lettuce, and Day 2 I ate pickles it turned out had sugar in them, but I learned as I went and I'm delighted that today was completely clean.

I have no idea what I weigh because we do not own a scale, but we're going to get one tomorrow. I'm actually really nervous about this - I'm only 5'2 or 3, and I am guessing I weight about 165, which would give me 30 - 35 lbs to lose. If it turns out I weigh more than that, I'll be pretty mortified but guess I'd rather find out after comitting to a diet than before because at least I'll know I'm doing something about it.

Anyone, everyone on this board has been so helpful, so I wanted to say thanks with the recipes, menu reviews and support, especially during my first, rough day.

    So, thanks!

Well I am happy to see you on the boards! This is a great place for info. You'd be amazed at the sugar hiding in some foods. I wouldn't worry much about the pickles, everything is a learning experience. I too did not own a scale when I started the atkins way, and I was absolutely floored when I did get a scale and found I was a good 20 lbs over what I estimated my weight to be. But don't let that get you down if the same happens to you. My first instinct was to crawl into a box of donuts and hide, lol. But I stayed strong and became even more determined to make a change. I hope everything works out for you, and I can't wait to hear of your future successes.

      Good Luck!!!

Re: Happy to be on Atkins

        Welcome to the Atkins Board.

So you know where you are starting it would be wise to take your measurements, and if you don't own scales, find a set to step on so you know where you are from time to time.

I hope you’ve read the 2002 Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR), it’s the book we follow on this bulletin board. If you haven’t until you can get a copy you’ll find a condensed version at the top of the induction -
(Atkins Diet Induction FAQs)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/77558-atkins-diet-induction-faqs.html. You should be eating 2 cups from the first vegetable list and 1 cup of veggies from the "other" list plus a variety of meats & cheeses (3 -4 ounces of cheese maximum daily).

Make sure you drink a minimum of 64 ounces of pure water (nothing added), exercise starting today and taking a multi-vitamin. Check all around the board for everything there is to, there is a challenge section with both exercise and non exercise challenges, Rate My Menu for help with your food, journaling – there is something for everyone

Make a copy of this list (What foods can be eaten on Induction?)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html and take it with you when you go to the store. If a food isn’t listed on the acceptable food list don’t eat it. Learn to read the label on all foods you buy - don’t just look at the “carb” number look at the ingredients list of everything and check the ingredients against your list. Just because it says "low carb" doesn't mean you can eat it. Also check for hidden sugars (learn the names used in place of the word “sugar”).

The recipe sites are helpful for meal planning – just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with.

Sorry to hear about your pickles. There are good sugar free ones out there.
Thanks for the intro. I have been enjoying your posts already. Glad to have an active member here. We need to support each other.

Re: Happy to be on Atkins

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone, I really appreciate it!

Good news: I found sugar free exotic French cornichon pickles that are so tart they will strip your tate buds. They are fabulous.

Bad news: I bought a scale. I weigh 186.4 POUNDS. 186 pounds! I'm stunned. I have no idea how this happened, nor did I think I weighed anything like this.

Good news: I am 200% committed to shifting 50 lbs by my birthday, which is April 30th. This is just not going to be allowed to continue, end of story.
