  • It's been awhile... re-induction!

    Hey folks,
I am back on Atkins, after a 3 year, gained all my weight back ( plus) sabbatical. When my M.D. told me this summer I would have to take Metformin for type 2 Diabetes, I decided there was not way on this green earth I would be a slave to the disease so I jumped on the Atkins wagon. I had forgotten how incredible I felt in 2006 when I was on it before. I have a totally different attitude today toward life, health and this diet. The one thing I have trouble with is all of the negativity that comes along with being on Atkins. Does or has anyone else experienced it? It can be a bit discouraging when family, friends, and co-workers tear it up. I try to educate them, but some people will argue over and over with me. Other than that I feel great, and so far I look great ( all my clothes are HUGE on me). I'm excited to be back. I look forward to watching everyone shrink with me!

Great. It is good to hear how well it is going.
There is little you can do about the nay-sayers. They just do not know or understand this way. Media has not done a good job in really informing the public. Sometimes I just tell people I do not eat sugar and leave it like that.

    Great to have you here.

      Welcome back –

Follow the plan the way it is written – hopefully you have a copy of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR). Start exercising right away, drink plenty of pure water (64 ounces minimum daily – nothing added) and you’ll be on your way to loosing before you know it – don’t forget to get all your vegetables in daily! We all deal with people who don't understand Atkins on a daily basis - it's just easier to prove it's a great plan than to debate it.

At the top of the induction page you’ll find a condensed version of the book - http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/77558-atkins-diet-induction-faqs.html. Make a copy of this list http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html - take it with you when you go to the store.

Check the STAC Second Time Around Club - Atkins Diet for additional support. Check the stickies at the top of the induction forum to refresh your memory on the plan. http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/5781-before-you-begin-atkins-nutritional-approach.html. Also look at the challenge section to see if there is anything you might be interested in.

The recipe sites are a helpful meal planning tool – just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with.

You know what? If people keep telling you Atkins is bad, unhealthy, etc, don't tell them you are on Atkins. I tell people I'm doing a low-glycemic diet (which is beneficial for those who are diabetic) and am eliminating most processed foods as well...because you know most of what people will offer you or tempt you with is processed and HIGH in the glycemic-way, so they can't argue with you. I mean, really, when was the last time someone tried to force a piece of whole wheat toast down your throat??? Now, Dunkin Donuts perhaps....

Then when I get comments from people about meat that I'm eating I just tell them I've been feeling a little weak lately and needed a hearty protein fix.

You know its Atkins, we know its Atkins, but if it bothers you to deal with people who have no clue what Atkins really is just tell a white lie. Its none of their business anyway.

thanks guy! I guess I was just looking for some validation. I was beginning to think I was the only one getting crap from people.

Lesson #1 ... what you eat is your business. Stop telling people! Do they tell you what they're eating?

Lesson #2 ... if someone gives you grief, just say, "thank you for your concern", and move the conversation along. If they persist, you don't have to respond.

Lesson #3 ... people are waaaaay more interested in what's on their plate than on your's.

Lesson #4 ... you can be honest and say, "I'm eating the way my doctor wants me to eat." What can they say to that.
