  • Newbie bloke from Midlands, UK

    Hi all,

Just stumbled across this site a few hours ago, and have been reading all the posts since then. Seems like a wonderful place, so if I may pull up a chair I'd like to stick around.

My name is Nick, I'm 32, single, and living in the Midlands, UK. I have been overweight for, um, as long as I can remember. So this year I have decided to do something about it. I have not dieted before so this is quite a new experience.

I started Atkins 5 weeks ago. My start weight was 285 pounds, I'd like to lose 70 pounds. (Based upon my height, 6'3" that's still apparently a bit overweight. But I'd be overjoyed if I get to that!).

After this 5 weeks I am down 24 pounds, which I don't think is spectacular but it's going in the right direction at least.

Dieting, or at least talking about dieting, isn't really a blokey thing to do, so I'm hoping to make a few friends here and get some support. (And give whatever I can). I'm going to post in the find a buddy subforum too, but I thought I'd say hi here first :wave
    Newbie here, please be gentle!

Hi Nick, Pull up a chair! I too, am a newbie. You have found a great board. A 24 lb weight loss in only 5 weeks is great. Everybody is different. I have been on Atkins 5 weeks and have lost only 20 lbs. Keep up the good work! We started an exercise challenge today that you might want to check out. Exercise is a very important part of the Atkins Diet.

          Hello Nick and welcome! :wave

I saw your pics from over in chit chat and they are wonderful. What kind of camera do you have? I have a very low price Olympus digital camera that I used to take pics of items I wanted to sell on eBay. But, I'd like to upgrade some time soon.

Here's wishing you much continued success with this WOL. And that is the best way to think about it, as a Way Of Life.

Hi Nick. So happy you found us. We've all been the new person here at one time or another, but you'll find that it doesn't take long before you fit right in. Make sure you read the book, drink water, exercise and take your supplements. That is the secret to succeeding on this weight loss journey. Believe me when I started Atkins over a year ago, I didn't think it would work. I was convinced that I was destined to be fat the rest of my life. Boy, am I glad that I was wrong.

Everyone here is fantastic for giving encouraging advice, motivating and inspiring each other as we all strive to reach out goal weights and get healthy. If you haven't checked out the before/after photos, make sure you do. Also read the stories in the Loser's Lounge from people just like you who are making it happen. You can do this. Best Wishes, if you have questions, just ask.
