  • Hi, I'm new here!

Hi, I'm brand new to these boards. So I'm going to introduce myself. I'm Nicole.

I started Atkins on August 17th...(I did it a few years ago and lost a lot of weight on it)....I've put on some weight in the last couple of years...and I'm ready to take it off and be healthy again!!

I'm currently doing Atkins Phase 1. I'm happy that I found this place & look forward to making some online friends here...

Edited Note: I see everyone follows the 2002 DANDR version on this forum...so I will definately have to pick that up. Can I ask what the difference is in the new version of the diet?

Hi and welcome back Nicole -

I hope you have the 2002 DANDR book and have read it. Eat foods on the acceptable foods list, drink a minimum of 64 ounces of water, eat until you are not hungry any longer (not stuffed), exercise and enjoy your weight loss.

If you need anything we're always here to help each other.

Hi. Thanks!! I don't think I have the 2002 DANDR book. I will definately pick the book up, though. I do drink a lot of water...and exercise, but I actually read on another thread that the revised version of the diet wasn't good??

I don't know exactly what you mean by "the revised version" of the diet wasn't good. What the Atkins website is says is not what we follow - they say, among other things, that the shakes and bars are allowed during all phases of the plan -- but if you look at the ingredients of them very new ingredients are on the acceptable food list in the book. The version we follow is the 2002 Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution...nothing else.

                  Re: Hi, I'm new here!

I have one of the "newer books". It leaves out some important things and does include what we shall call FRANKENFOODS. That being things like the shakes and bars and more. Some people can't have certain sweetners and still loose weight, sometimes something from a higher rung is in something marketed to the lower rungs. That is the major difference, product marketing in the later book. A lot of people here have to stay away from fake sweets and things because it increases their cravings and leads to eating the real thing. Or it doesn't work for other reasons. When you go up the rungs you pay attention to weightloss and cravings. Sometimes a food won't agree with you. OWL is about finding what works for you. Induction is the time to get a clean slate to start with, then try adding in things like Splenda afterwards and hopefully one at a time. That way if something doesn't work, you know what is causing the problem.

My starting weight was 235 lbs and I'm trying to get to 130 lbs.

                  1st mini goal: 145! met 12/09
                  2nd mini goal: 140!
                  3rd mini goal:135!
                  4th mini goal: 130!

I drink coffee. I drink when I am thirsty. I am just a low carber. Not on Atkins at all!!! He has everything to do with my weightloss and nothing to do with it, depending on who you ask.

Someone on another thread that I was reading said the new revised version of the diet wasn't as "good" (as in not as effective with weight loss) as the original plan because it added in more foods/carbs and the book says to eat the bars which apparently slow the weight loss...but you're saying that the 2002 version says not to eat the bars? I understand that the version this board follows is the 2002..many people have already told me, LOL.
