Hi everyone! My name is Lucy. I have a history of weight ups and downs and eating disorders. I won't tell my whole life story, because that would take too long. I have been on and off Atkins for the past few months (I know it doesn't work if you don't do it continuously.) I chose Atkins mainly because I believe much of my disordered eating behavior is linked to a carbohydrate addiction. I want to do it right this time, without cheating. I came here because I realized I needed insight and support from other people doing Atkins! Thanks in advance for all your help!

Re: I'm new!
I either eat too much or on atkins I don't want to eat enough sometimes. Sometimes I mess up and eat something I shouldn't. It has taken me two years instead of one, but I am winning! Go up the rungs slowly, add the allowed sweetners one at a time and see how they affect you and your food cravings, go up the rungs slowly and carefully and see how it goes. I'm not a good greeter, someone better at it will come by soon with the important links and practical advice. I just thought I'd say hey because I have had my own disordered eating issues too and Atkins has helped me tons. Welcome!

My starting weight was 235 lbs and I'm trying to get to 130 lbs.
1st mini goal: 145! met 12/09
2nd mini goal: 140!
3rd mini goal:135!
4th mini goal: 130!
I drink coffee. I drink when I am thirsty. I am just a low carber. Not on Atkins at all!!! He has everything to do with my weightloss and nothing to do with it, depending on who you ask.

Re: I'm new!
Thanks for the greeting, Rita! I am going to try having nothing sweet at all--I moved all my Splenda out to the garage, out of sight. I made some chocolate truffles from a recipe in the book, but I'm not ready for that yet--I ate way too many. I have been having caffeine, but I have cut that out again also, because I think I did better when I was without it. The next few days are not going to be easy...
but I can do this!

Re: I'm new!
Welcome to the Atkins Board Lucy.
I hope you’ve read the 2002 Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR), it’s the book we follow on this bulletin board. If you haven’t until you can get a copy you’ll find a condensed version at the top of the induction - (Atkins Diet Induction FAQs)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/77558-atkins-diet-induction-faqs.html.
Make sure you drink a minimum of 64 ounces of pure water (nothing added), exercise starting today and taking a multi-vitamin. Check all around the board for everything there is to, there is a challenge section with both exercise and non exercise challenges. If you find your having problems with what you are eating or questioning your food choices, Rate My Menu will help. We also have a journal area where you can meet others – there is something for everyone and the more involved you are the more support and help you can receive.
Make a copy of this list (What foods can be eaten on Induction?)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html and take it with you when you go to the store. If a food isn’t listed on the acceptable food list don’t eat it. Learn to read the label on all foods you buy - don’t just look at the “carb” number look at the ingredients list of everything and check the ingredients against your list. Just because it says "low carb" doesn't mean you can eat it. Also check for hidden sugars (learn the names used in place of the word “sugar”).
The recipe sites are helpful for meal planning – just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with.
