Hello all!
Let me first start by saying this is a great message board and I am sure it will help me get through the induction phase! Well, my name is Fritz and I joined a team based weight competition here in my city. Kinda like Biggest Loser but without the personal trainers or nutritionists. You pay $5 each week and the money is used as a prize pool. You basically weigh in each week and you are also penalized $2 for every pound that you gain. (LongBeachLosers.com)
Anyhow, I started the competition at 198 pounds, started riding my bike and watching the carb intake. I wasnt following the Atkins but just cut out things like soda, pastas and breads. I tried it for a week and dropped 2 pounds. Then Labor Day weekend came and I drank beers and ate all the stuff that I shouldnt have and gained the 2 pounds back.
So, the next week I am eating my fiber cereals, eating alot of fruit, turkey burgers on wheat bread, wheat pasta and other low fat, high fiber stuff and lose 5.5 pounds in a week. Mind you I have been riding my bike and hitting the gym on a regular. I'm focused!
Now I am just wondering if going into the induction phase now would either help me lose more weight or will I actually gain some by next weeks weigh in by switching from low fat to low carb. Also, people say you need carbs for energy and exercise. I ride about 12-15 miles everyday and in the middle of the ride I am at the gym hitting the weights. Will I have enough energy to get me through these workouts?
I did the Atkins before when my wife was pregnant and lost about 20 pounds. Of course I gained it all back after the baby was born and now there were kids birthday parties with lots of cakes and ice creams!
Started induction today with a cheese and mushroom omlette. Lunch is going to be a salad and dinner a nice steak and salad. Here goes nothing...
