    Hi everyone, my name is Brenda and im fairly new to the Atkins diet.
    I was searching the internet for a support group type thing, and came accross this site and seems like a really great site for anyone doing atkins.

    I started Atkins Sept. 08, 2009 (this month) and started @ 236 lbs. and now weigh 228. So its comming off but alittle slower than i expected.

    Im also a diabetic type 2, and on meds, and on thryroid meds, and hormones so i have alot i think that is and might be slowing me down some.

    But im hanging in there! Trying to keep with it.....being patient.
    My bf lost 138 lbs and counting so far...on it...
    so thats what inspired me to try it.

    You'll get a ton of support here at ADBB. There is a wealth of knowledge here so use it to your advantage. At the top of each forum are sticky notes with tons of information. Read posts, ask questions etc..

    The best thing you can do for yourself & maybe you have is read the book. Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution (2002 version).

      Hi freckles,
      I think you are doing fine considering the meds. And dont forget women lose more slowly anyway. 8 pounds in 16 days is terrific! I would love to have those numbers. So don't focus on how fast other people lose, focus on the fact that you ARE losing. And feeling more energetic and healthier.

        Congratulations on what you've done this far! Keep up the great work and you'll be healthier before you know it. Check the threads for the thyroid group, you should get lots of help there.

        Vary your meals so you don't get tired of the same thing over and over. Drink plenty of water (64 ounces minimum daily - nothing added), exercise and take a multivitamin.

        Good luck -- the more you use the site the more you'll learn!

            50 lbs gone on Sun 9/27/09

            Well its been over a year now and I am currently on maintenance and still trying to adjust to the "new" ME. No major struggles to report, just livin' day to day.

              thank you all for your encouragement and support and replys.

              Well i got the book and been reading it... still not finished with it yet...but reading it when i can. ( i work long long hours...14 hrs a day most days and totaly exhausted by time i get home) but im still reading it when i can.

              im alittle down today though cause i got on the scale and it showed 230...i dont know if im gaining water weight...or what....ive been pretty much sticking to the 20 carbs a day thing... so i dont know...

                dont' get frustrated, keep following the plan...there are many things that can cause fluctuation. Be sure you are drinking your water, I'm sure it will go back down...patience!

                  What does "pretty much" mean? You need the 20 net carbs to be there! Doing less isn't productive!

                  Also, if you're not eating enough calories, you won't lose either!

                  And ... fluctuations happen ... even in maintenance!

                    Hi Brenda:

                    It takes time, and lots of it. Give yourself a realistic goal and time limit. I'm hoping to go down to 175 in 5 months. I'm happy with a 4 lb loss per month. After that, you risk losing too much muscle mass and might end up looking like a mini-version of what you may look like now standing naked in front of a mirror.

                    Give it time and patience. This diet works. It is a biochemical inevitability.

                      Weight can fluctuate quite a bit - especially with women (hormonal stuff)
                      Did you weigh at the same time of day (like early morning?)

                      Make sure you eat your carbs ONLY from the allowed lists.
                      Atkins is not a 20 carb diet. He specify exactly what you can eat.
                      Make sure to eat 3 cups of veggies. Veggies should be the majority of your daily carb count everyday on induction.

                        We have about the same to lose and it has taken my 4 weeks today to lose 13. So your doing great! Don't ever compare to what a man loses because they always do it faster./ Slow and steady losses the race.

                          Hi !! I'm on my 4th day of Induction Phase and its not easy....I still crave my snacks :-( but I know all they do is give me temporary pleasure. I have found that exercise definitely helped moved the rate of wieghtloss to a high gear definitely. One thing I have learnt from Atkins is he is spot on about the Diet Sodas !! I was using Coke Light and Zero and noticed I plateaued whenever I introduced them ! I replaced them with club soda which I have grown to like.
                          I realise I am a Carboholic..plain and simple and to beat these addictions to sugar I have to go "cold turkey"...no two ways...still feeling a bit ...strange..headaches eased up but just ...I guess its like a rehab feeling or something !!

                          You go girl !! Be strong and remember anyone can give up.

                            I'm not a big fan of the scale. It keeps us discouraged. It's best to go by how your clothes are fitting.

                              Well pinkfeathers couldn't agree with you more but I like to do at most a weekly weigh in just to see if anything I added or changed could have triggered a set back or new boost.
