  • Howdy y'all from Texas

Hi everyone! My name is Dani and I'm 25 years old. I started Atkins on September 11 this year and I am going to be doing extended induction. I read Dr. Atkins book when I was a teenager and lost a bunch of weight back then. Unfortunately as I ventured out into the "real world", it became easier to eat fast food and junk than to stick to a strict plan like Atkins. I was busy. I went to college and a full time job. The last thing I wanted to do was come home and cook a steak. My weight now is the highest it's ever been. The real breaking point was when I got too big to sit on chairs without worrying if they were going to hold me.

I am keeping a food diary and have been in ketosis since 9/11. The one question I do have is: What exercise do y'all recommend for someone who hasn't done much exercise in a while?

Anyways, I love to come here and read everyone's inspirational posts and for information. You all are the best people and I'm glad to have found this place!

    Hi Dani,
Welcome to the boards! I have been a similar journey as you so well done for making the decision to come back to the Atkins plan. Exercise has been a big benefit for me and has helped with my weight loss. I started out walking (very slowly!). It was difficult at first but every day was easier. Whatever exercise you choose try to stick with it, it will pay off. Good luck to you and keep posting!

Congratulations on your return. I'm a newbie so I don't have any advice or resources for you yet. You and I have roughly around the same amount of weight to lose so I plan on keeping track of your progress and any insights you can share along the way.

        Hi and welcome Dani!!

Congratulations on already starting and getting into Keotsis!! Make sure you drink a minimum of 64 ounces of pure water (nothing added) and taking a multi-vitamin. If you haven't already, read the 2002 Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR).

As far as exercise do something that you enjoy -- walking is a great way to start...I remember hardly being able to get to the corner and back when I first started - now I walk several miles each week, how about a stationary bike, try an exercise video (you don't have to keep up with every single step, just do what you can -- then each time try to do a little more). Go to your local library or second hand store and see if they have any exercise videos - that way you aren't out a lot of money if you decide you don't like one. If you have access to a pool water exercises are a low impact way to tone your body.

Eat the foods on the acceptable food list

Vary your meals so you don't get tired of eating the same thing over and over -- we have too many choices for that to happen.

Thanks for the replies, and good advice! I'm going to start walking this Sunday, maybe at the mall.
