  • Hello from Mollymae

Hello all, I am mollymae, I live on a homestead. I raise my food and my meat.
And well, I love baking ,and cooking, and am fat.
so I just remembered the atkins diet, started it today, and well, here i am.
I really need to get this weight off. I have found since my dh is gone most of the time, it is easy for me to eat, thinking no one will know, except i am getting rather fluffy. the doc, said fat.
so I am going to make this work. I don't want to be at this weight for christmas, no I don't.

Did you have a check up of the rules of induction. They are important to follow.
And you can still cook and eat but it has to be a bit different.

          >>I ate green beans.>>

Green beans are more than acceptable! They're called "string beans" on the Induction food list.

          So, you didn't "blow it"!

Hiya Mollymae...welcome to ADBB! Green beans ARE allowed...they call them string beans in the lists. So, you did NOT blow it on your first day.

How exciting that you raise your own food. What a great way to eat healthy and avoid all those chemically processed foods in the grocery stores. Atkins will fit right in to your lifestyle...just need some changes to what you've been doing. Looking forward to hearing more from you.

Welcome to the Atkins Board Mollymae.

Make sure you drink a minimum of 64 ounces of pure water (nothing added), exercise starting today and taking a multi-vitamin. If you haven't already, read the 2002 Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR).

Eat the foods on the acceptable food list (as you've seen above green beans are "string beans" on the "other" vegetable list -- 1 cup a day is the approved amount)
http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.htmland find wonderful recipes here: just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with. Vary your meals so you don't get tired of eating the same thing over and over -- we have too many choices for that to happen.

First of all, how cool is it to grow your own veggies and raise your own meat? I am so jealous (stuck here in the city). Don't beat yourself up over green beans. That's my favorite "approved" vegetable, though I don't eat the whole can like I used to. You do need to eat veggies on Atkins, but according to the book and portions. It's really a fun diet, once you start to see it working everyday. Welcome and good luck!

thank you every one for the warm welcome. I guess i need help because I couldn't find string beans any place.
I don't want to make that mistake again.
I am not understanding this first phase at all. but trying to figure it all out.
I am not a diet person, never was i nmy life, but I wasn't 50 pounds over weight either, well, welcome to 60 and being fat, cause some place along the line, I got it on me. now to ge it off.

It is great to grow your own meats, furits, and veggies.
i will be canning up vabbage, andapples soon. cabbage this week, and apples this week also.
making cider and freezing it, apple sauce, apple butter, and apple pie filling.
such as it goes on a home stead.
right now I am going to go out and gather up the eggs. milking was done much eariler.

Well we all have to start somewhere. I think it can be hard to get used to induction. The main principle is fine: Eat protein and fat - avoid all carbs except salad veggies.
Hope you are having another great day.
Canning sounds like fun. (Do you use splenda for it?)

                        Re: Hello from Mollymae

than ks liv, I am on track today, I am sure. had 2 cups of coffee, with heavy cream.
2 eggs, fried in about a tablespoon of butter.
canning is fun, but hard work, for sure.
no I do not use any kind of artificial sugars, none. So it is not used in my canning. IF i need to use sugar I do use real sugar.
I am allergic to the artificial sugars.
so I just don't eat sugar. not often any way.
when canning, I use the real thing.
I think I am on track today, and doing ok.
well, in a little while will go feed my dairy goats, they will get some grains, as I filled up their hay feeder yesterday, and it is still full. now tossing around bales of hay , isn't easy.
It is going to be cool here tonight, so will have to get wood over to the furnace. I burn wood for heat. I also have a wood cookstove in my kitchen, that I cook on all winter.
getting exercise is not a problem around here, for sure.
