  • Towards the new me

I am a mother 2 beautiful children 2 & 5, and a great step mother to a 13 year old. Living in Northern Alberta for about 5 years now.
I have tried almost every diet. I did weight watchers lost 20 lbs, but I got bored of counting points. All I thought of was food and trying to eat all of the points in one day was hard at times.
I am a pasta and rice lover, I over eat them. I think the Atkins diet will help with the cravings of not wanting them.
This was my first day on Atkins, and it went smoothly. The first couple of days suppose to be the hardest hopefully tomorrow will go as good as today.
    Wish me luck!!!

    Re: Towards the new me

    Hi there

I'm new here but not new to Atkins. Fellow Canadian living in BC. I'll be starting back on induction on Oct 1, but am using these last couple of days to withdraw from caffeine and carbs.

This diet definitely kills the cravings. That's what I like about it.
Good luck and hang in there - it's easy once you're on plan

      Hi Renee...welcome to ADBB!

You have a lot of company in the "tried lots of diets" department. I know it doesn't seem possible right now but Atkins will definitely help you with the pasta/rice cravings. I shudder when I think that Mr. Ski and I used to split a 1# box of pasta...HUGE bowls. Geez. But by following the plan as it is written will wipe out those starch/sugar cravings in a very short time.

I have to admit that occasionally I mentally want some of those things but we can have so many tasty foods on Atkins that it really is easy to pass them by. It becomes easier and easier as time goes on too.

Congrats on a great first day and please post if you have any questions.

        Welcome to the Atkins Board.

I hope read the 2002 Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR), it’s the book we follow on this bulletin board. If you haven’t until you can get a copy you’ll find a condensed version at the top of the induction -
        (Atkins Diet Induction FAQs)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/77558-atkins-diet-induction-faqs.html.

Make sure you drink a minimum of 64 ounces of pure water (nothing added), exercise starting today and taking a multi-vitamin. Check all around the board for everything there is to, there is a challenge section with both exercise and non exercise challenges - many of them are starting on the 1st so you are joining at a great time!!

One of the best parts of Atkins is no counting, no worrying about finding a box meal that you might like. We eat whole foods, not a shake, a bar or a boxed meal so our food tastes wonderful!

Make a copy of this list (What foods can be eaten on Induction?)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html and take it with you when you go to the store. If a food isn’t listed on the acceptable food list you shouldn’t be eating it. Learn to read the label on all foods you buy - don’t just look at the “carb” number look at the ingredients list of everything and check the ingredients against your list. Just because it says "low carb" or "0 carb" doesn't mean you can eat it. Also check for hidden sugars (learn the names used in place of the word “sugar”).

The recipe sites are helpful for meal planning – just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with.
