  • Greetings from Dubai :)

    Hello everybody

I'm day 2 so far!!! Woop...should be hitting ketosis by morning time!!! This is not my first Atkins attempt.....However last time I tried I did not even get past 5 days........I recently lost 13 kilos on a raw food diet, BUT I attribute most of that loss to an intense workout regime and days of starvation if Im being honest, Atkins really appeals to me as it is not too restrictive....so Im looking for something to stick with long term....Im approx 10-15 kilos over weight at the moment and I'm looking to be in super skinny jeans by crimbo!

Finding all the temptations hard to deal with though.....I am surrounded by world cuisine everywhere I go *agh*.........

Sticking to my plan, I'm looking to drop 15 kilo's by crimbo, although I would be very happy with 10 to be more on the realistic side!

I'm thinking I may need a buddy though, someone to check up on me and hold me accountable.....who's up for a newbie challenge.......

    Also, anyone here in Dubai????

Nice to cyber meet you all...I will be posting some pics soon *Uh-Oh*

          Welcome back –

Because your lifestyle and other things are different, you may not loose the same as you did before, so don’t compare what happened “the last time”. Follow the plan the way it is written – hopefully you have a copy of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR). Start exercising right away, drink plenty of pure water (64 ounces minimum daily – nothing added) and you’ll be on your way to loosing before you know it – don’t forget to get all your vegetables in daily! Good luck loosing weight before your holiday.

Learn to read the label on all foods you buy - don’t just look at the “carb” number look at the ingredients list of everything and check the ingredients against your list. Just because it says "low carb" doesn't mean you can eat it. Also check for hidden sugars (learn the names used in place of the word “sugar”).

Check the STAC Second Time Around Club - Atkins Diet for additional support. Check the stickies at the top of the induction forum to refresh your memory on the plan. http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/5781-before-you-begin-atkins-nutritional-approach.html. Also look at the challenge section to see if there is anything you might be interested in.

The recipe sites are a helpful meal planning tool – just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with.

            Re: Greetings from Dubai

Welcome Dubai (thats easier than Beating PCOS). There are a handful of us unattached expats on this board so we tend to all nod to each other since there are so few of us in individual countries. I think you are the first I have seen from Dubai. Great place to live when doing Atkins---when you want to reward yourself the gold souk is handy.

It is definitely a challenge doing this in an international setting for a lot of reasons. There are political/job pressures with dinners to attend, lack of low carb items, and a wealth of things to tempt you but you can definitely succeed on Atkins as long as you are focused. As Carole said, each time you revisit Atkins you will probably see changes in the results. Don't get discouraged, just be patient. It still works! Glad you found us.

              Re: Greetings from Dubai

Thank you for the welcomes guys! I will def be needing a buddy Shay....
I think last time around I made things complicated...I'm looking to keep it simple this time....I have my book, which I have read so many times! I always drink tons of water ( protect the skin! ) and I workout 5 days a week, I also walk the 5km beach track a few times a week....so I have good habits in place.....Coffee is my biggest problemo...the Starbucks kind

So I should be a success story this time around......like I mentioned before I have lost around 13 kilos this year BUT I have done nothing with any consistancy and this weight loss has been in drips and drabs...so I'm looking to get it all done in one attempt, no more quitting/starting!!!

My goal of christmas seems a tad un-realistic to some. what do you guys think?...I haven't been 'home' for 1 year now, and will be going back December..so I wanna have the shock and awe factor really

I am a career expat. Started with Texaco in China in 1990, then Russia, Poland, Russia, back to Hong Kong, and as luck would have it, back to mainland China--less than 40 minutes from where we started! Raised two kids overseas and still like the challenge. WHen it stops being fun, we'll go home.

Probably China, the first time around. It was all so exciting and we were with a terrific bunch of people. It was definitely a hardship posting then, and I actually like the hardship posts better. People pull together more. Russia was a tough place to live. Cold, dark, and inconvenient, and expensive! I liked Poland a lot. Beautiful beautiful country and nice people. I would go back there in heartbeat.

                          Re: Greetings from Dubai

Hey I live in Abu Dhabi and have about 10 kilos left to lose. Ive been struggling though cuz I just came back from the US visiting family and they treated me to alot of illegal things and it was hard to say no. Ive gained back 3 kilos but I had never made it to goal so I have about 10 kilos which would actually put me under my goal. But now looking at my body and my goal I think I need to be way below 135 pounds.

Anyways, welcome and hopefully we can all stay on track. Ive been back to day 1 maybe 6 times since Ive been back from the US....actuallly lol today is DAY 1 again!!!!

                            Re: Greetings from Dubai

I've started my Atkins diet 5 days ago. So far I've lost 5lbs. I'm too lazy to exercise and I'm waiting for the weather to get a little better before I start a walking/jogging routine (we're getting there..).

I'm in Dubai and I find buying food extremely frustrating. Finding low-carb items is a mission impossible. Everything would need to be prepared from scratch since almost all items don't even include nutritional facts to tell me what I'm dealing with.

I wouldn't mind paying a premium on Atkins snack bars and whatnot, but I can't seem to find where they are sold in Dubai (if they are at all). If anyone knows, please point me to them!

I have almost the same goal as you do (losing around 20lbs before christmas).. I'm more than happy to have an Atkins buddy if you like (unless you were going for a female-to-female buddy -- which I can understand since both genders lose and gain weight differently).

Atkins is about real, minimally-processed foods. And I'm in Germany, but I still prepare everything from scratch. I buy veggies, meat, eggs, etc. and cook. No special "low-carb items" needed.

I wouldn't mind paying a premium on Atkins snack bars and whatnot, but I can't seem to find where they are sold in Dubai (if they are at all).
What I said about. Atkins is not about eating Atkins bars.

                              losing around 20lbs before christmas
Scheduling your weight loss is a bad idea. If you are looking for a way to feel disappointed about your weight loss, setting weight loss deadlines is what I would recommend. Don't go there.
