  • Hi! Newbie here!...

Just thought I would introduce myself....

My name is Andrea and I am an English girl living in New Zealand.

I did the Atkins Diet many years ago after having our son. I lost a heap of weight on it but went on holiday and went off the rails a bit. I never returned to the diet for some reason.

I stopped smoking three months ago.. I smoked twenty cigarettes a day for twenty years. This all thanks to an anti smoking pill (not sure if I am allowed to mention the name? but thats probably best suited for another site lol) I can honestly say I am now a non smoker. The challenge for me is getting rid of the weight I have gained. I have gained about 10 pounds though stopping smoking already. I need to get that off without feeling like I am depriving myself. What better way than Atkins! New Zealand is all about barbecues and meat here is cheap luckily so I reckon I'm halfway there!

Well thats just about it for me! I'm really geared up to do this and feel excited already - in Day 3 of induction.

I'm looking forward to sharing my experiences with everyone else on here no matter where on the globe you are.. and I am looking forward to making some new friends along the way..

    Take care

    Andrea

Hello, Andrea and welcome to ADBB. So where is Napier? I was lucky enough to visit Auckland and the South Island for two weeks (a long time ago) and will never forget the beauty of NZ. I know quitting smoking is tough and I gained after I quit but it is worth it. Atkins will take that weight off for you. Just drink your water and eat your veg and you'll see. In a few days you will feel better and by the end of two weeks you will see a drop on the scale. If you don't have the book, at least read the stickies in the Induction threads. They will lay it all out for you. Bear in mind you may go through a bit of a withdrawal in days 2 thru 4. It's called the Induction Flu and will pass, so tough it out.

Congratulations on stopping smoking -- been there, done that also!

The recipe sites will help keep you from eating the same thing over and over -- check them out! Don't forget to eat enough vegetables (check the acceptable food list http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html) - eat enough vegetables - 2 cups from the first list and 1 cup from the 2nd list daily. Many of us use www.Fitday.com to track our food so we know what our carb totals are for the day. It's important you know what you are eating and how many carbs you are taking in each day.

        Hi Chinadoll,

In answer to your question Napier is on the North East coast of the North Island. Its got the best climate in NZ!

We emigrated here 3 years ago and apart from a few bumps along the way in terms of homesickness (or should I say familysickness) we have never looked back.

Its a beautiful place as you say... the downside is that we are limited in terms of foods and consumer goods. If you like having the latest gadget or latest mobile phone, NZ is definately not for you! Luckily we are not like that and to be honest it was one of the reasons we wanted to leave the UK.

Anyways I have rambled on enough now, take care and I am sure we will be in touch soon enough.. still trying to get my head around this diet!

It takes awhile, so be patient with yourself.
