  • Reclaiming the Old Me!!!

Hi everyone...my name is Allison I am 29 years old...I am a recent newlywed and I have a beautiful 2 year old litttle boy...Currently I am 215...I would like to lose AT LEAST 65 lbs. I want to be the healthiest I can be for my family. I got married not feeling comfortable about myself and I dont' want to celebrate my 1 year anniversary the same way!!! Wish me luck!!!

Also I have a question....is it necessary to count calories as well? I read some threads where ppl are counting them.

    Thanks!!!

Its not necessary to count calories. You do need to know yourself though. For some folks, this way of eating dampens their appetite so much they are not getting enough calories. You need at least 1500 a day. If you cut them back too much then your metabolism sloes and your weight loss stops. Also sufficient fat in the diet gives you more energy.

But I am one of those folks for whom getting enough calories has never been an issue. And now that I am in my late 40s my metabolism and hormones have played havoc with my weight loss. SO for me, yes- I count calories because I have to keep my calories between 1600 and 1800 to lose and I can easily go to 2200 a day if I am not careful.

I would say use fitday.com and you are going to have an awareness of whether you are in need of boosting your calories or trimming them, or most likely are just fine without really worrying about it. Its a very individual thing. I would certainly not try to do both. And I don't count calories all day. I look at what I have put into fitday before I make dinner and just make a mental note of whether or not I should ad some extra fats or maybe switch to fish tonight since it has been a calorie dense day. Its not rocket science.

Since you are just beginning your journey I would say don't count them. Just observe for awhile. If you find yourself not losing for a long stretch then look at your calories and see if they are too high or too low as either can cause your weightloss to slow. Here, eating too few is more often the cuplrit than eating too many, honest!

      Welcome to the board, acarsia!

I count calories because being short means I need less food than average or tall people so I have to stay aware all the time. The amount of fat in the diet makes it easy for me to eat too much but I didn't bother with calories for the first few months and I lost 38 lbs. So just take it one day at a time and see what happens.

      Good luck to you!
