  • Low Carb Life Style Change

    Hi everyone!

First I want to start by saying- I did Atkins in the past back in 1997- with great luck! Over the years I have had 2 more children. I did great with my weight after having my daughter, but when I had my son 7 years ago- things did not go as well as I planned and to date I have gone up and down with the scale- trying various diets. I did not want to go back to Atkins- because I loved my carbs! Needless to say, I have not lost my weight after 7 years.

I recently had some allergy panels done- because I always felt terrible- and guess what???? I am allergic to almost everything you are NOT supposed to eat on a low carb way of living during the induction. This reconfirmed everything for me- that this is the road I am supposed to be on- not only to loose weight, but for feeling great. I am allergic to wheat, corn, soy, peanuts, rice, barley, oat, chocolate, rye, and whole grain. Obviously- I am not allergic to the point of- dying if consummed- but to where I always feel awful. I think this also explains why I felt so good when I did Atkins years ago and why I was doing great with my weight loss.

It is all clear to me now- so to loose weight and to feel great- I must do this! I am willing to come back to Atkins-starting today and will keep all of you posted along my journey!

    Thanks!

      Welcome back.
So what system did you use in 97? I have just had some fun reading Atkins' old books and seeing how the diet evolved over the years. Here at ADBB, as you may know, we use the 2002 book and the system in it.
Nice that you get all those answers. Chocolate too - wow I'd be devastated

Hi and welcome back to Atkins --

Regardless of what you did before, or what people are doing now it’s best not to compare - just follow the plan the way it's written. Look around and find what interests you and join in. Check the STAC Second Time Around Club - Atkins Diet for additional support.

I hope you already have the 2002 DANDR book and have read it, it is the edition we follow on this site. If not it's worth a few dollars to purchase. Get enough pure water in daily (64oz is recommended), exercise and take a non-iron multivitamin.

The recipe sites will help keep you from eating the same thing over and over -- check them out! Don't forget to eat enough vegetables (check the acceptable food list (What foods can be eaten on Induction?)(What foods can be eaten on Induction?)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html) - 2 cups from the first list and 1 cup from the 2nd list daily.

Re: Low Carb Life Style Change

Welcome. Won't it be wonderful not to have those allergy symptoms? I know now that milk and grain products bother me but if it weren't for this Way of Eating I would still be feeling bloated and yucky because I wouldnt have figured this out. Lucky you. It will also give you extra incentive to stay true to the diet!
