  • Starting a little nervously ...

Hello, I just started today. I don't even have the book yet but it's on its way and I have read a lot on the internet about what to do, especially here and at about.com

Before I've been on every other type of diet but always nervous about this one. Then read something a couple of days ago that made me want to try it. Desperate because although my weight is not so very high I was swelling up like a balloon! I was trying to cut out sugar and refined carbs by myself, but still eating a lot of fruit and whole carbs, and low fat. Which would be fine for a few days and then I would pig out uncontrollably on foods I will not mention here

Still a bit nervous because I am used to eating a lot of vegetables (like 3 lb per day) and very little meat and dairy, so I am not sure what this will do to my digestion. But I went to the max on the vegetables today and managed to eat over 1 lb veggies without going over 20 carbs so that has reassured me. Plus I am adding flax meal.

Anyway it was a great first day and I haven't felt hungry

Very sleepy though. I read that will go away after a few days ...

Rosie, Welcome. Lot's of great information on this forum. Set realistic goals so you don't get discouraged. Drink lot's of water, vary your menus, plan your menus! Keep a food log...very helpful. Sign up for some challenges to keep you motivated: water, exercies, reading the book. Best of luck to you on your journey. Let me know if I can help in any way. Michelle

      Welcome to the board, Rosie!

There is nothing to be nervous about on Atkins because it is a very effective and filling diet. You won't be hungry because of all the great foods and you will lose weight.

Because you have so little to lose, it may take a little longer but don't be discouraged because this is a lifetime plan, not a crash diet. It will become second nature in no time.

      Good luck to you!

        Hi Rosie,

Just bear in mind not all veggies are allowed in Induction. For example, carrots are not allowed until a much higher rung because of their natural sugar content. Also you should note that this is not so much a high protein diet as a high fat diet. Do read the book when you get it. It will explain a lot for you.

It's not about the results. Its about the process.

Re: Starting a little nervously ...

Welcome aboard! Nice to have you with us.
Like you, I am a great veggie eater... in induction it can be galling to be limited by the three cup rule; but induction is only two weeks.
I'd advise you to move to OWL (ongoing weight loss) straight after induction. That way you can slowly increase your veggies. Don't be afraid of OWL... many people lose even faster on the early rungs.
Also... do include exercise and lots of water. Both very important.

          Happy Atkineering!
