  • New and Ready!

    Hello everyone,

Just finished my first day on induction. I decided to do the Atkins woe after discovering how similar it is to the "eat real food" philosophy that I believe is healthiest for all of us! Looks like Atkins really encourages eating real, whole foods! I love that.

I really like the induction foods so I'm not too concerned about most meals. I made a week's worth of induction-friendly meatloaf and roasted veggies that I plan to pull out of the freezer and top with cheese for lunches. Will probably do shakes made with fresh eggs, cream, and a tad bit of vanilla extract for breakfasts, and I'll be varying up the dinners, but have the fridge stocked with salmon steaks, veggies, ground burger, etc. I feel ready to go!!

My biggest concerns are with getting enough water and with meals eaten out. I'll just have to be assertive about what I can and can't eat when at a friend's house or restaurant! The water thing is tough for me, though.

Enjoyed day one and looking forward to dropping some weight while getting healthier! Have a great night and I look forward to getting to know all of you,

    Melinda

    Welcome!

    >>I'll just have to be assertive about what I can and can't eat when at a friend's house or restaurant!>>

    Yep!

Remember ... it's not really what you "can" eat ... it's what you CHOOSE to eat.

What's tough about the water? Maybe we can help!

Thanks for the reply! It's kind of embarrassing to admit, but drinking more than 4 or so oz of water at one time (unless something is added) typically makes me feel like gagging. So, to get in all that water, I'll have to drink smaller amounts very frequently until I'm used to drinking that much water. Isn't that weird? You would think that, if anything, water would be something that everyone should enjoy! It doesn't make sense to me either .

Yes, that's what you will have to do!

Have you tried different ways to drink it? Some people find it goes down easier with a straw ... or cold ... or at room temperature.

I'm thinking that iced water with a straw may be the key. I'd better get some straws tomorrow! Gotta run to the store to get cream cheese, anyway. Saw a recipe somewhere that consisted of ground beef and cream cheese in a heart of romaine leaf, meant to be eaten like a taco. Sounds yummy!

              Re: New and Ready!

I started drinking cold (from the refrigerator) water in a 32oz cup with a straw when I first started Atkins. The day before I started I probably hadn't drank more than one 8oz glass of water a week in years. I drink between 120oz and 150oz a day now (it took a couple days to get up to that amount) but I gave up 4 to 5 diet sodas and a pot a day coffee habit to get there. If you are drinking water you don't have time to drink anything else. If you drink coffee - decaf is best.

Also remember - nothing but pure water counts....Crystal Light, sugar free Kool-Aid, diet soda, coffee, decaf tea -- none of these count toward your daily water.

Thanks so much for the tips!

Down 3lbs today. Hoping it's not a fluke and it means my metabolism is exhibiting low resistance!

You're in COMO, Carole? I went to Mizzou for my undergrad degree . I really miss walking by the columns each day.

                Have a good one, everyone,

Hey Melly! It sounds like you are doing terrific! When I went back to school I went to Stephens in Columbia. I loved that town and the whole college feel of the area. Hope it is all going well for you!

You know what I discovered works great for increasing water intake? Ketosis! I'm constantly thirsty!! REALLY thirsty. Maybe never being thirsty for water had something to do with my crappy nutrition all along...
